I was practically raised in the whole Sci Fi genre, so it was bound to become an interest. In addition to reading, costuming is a passion. I am active in the SCA as a bard and archer.
I also have plenty of more mundane interests ( Auto Repair, dancing, Music Performance, IT, and more)

My goal is to get out and meet more people that share some of these interests. It doesn't have to be all, but at least enough to establish commonality.
Communication is a big thing. There are ways to be honest & straightforward combined with diplomacy. It takes practice, but adds a lot more quality to any sort of relationship.
Looks are nice, but personality far outshines them. To put it bluntly, S-- can be great, but what do you do in between? LOL
