Gene Roddenberry was a visionary, ahead of his time... Before man had even dreamed of walking on the moon, Gene Roddenberry was dreaming of civilizations and planetary systems where ALL people were treated equally. He imagined technologies that today, are actually possible. Once Nichele Nichols, having second thoughts about being the only Black cast member, in a far-fetched pilot series, conveyed her doubts to Dr. Martin Luther King. King, a visionary himself, and a friend of Roddenberry's told her that she was indeed a pioneer, not only for Blacks, but for women and for the future of our society. If only both Mr. Roddenberry and Dr. King could have lived--to see the beginning of their dreams manifested. Two words come to mind: Barack Obama.
