Why are humans like starships?

Why are humans like starships? Peace and Long Life.

I idolize Spock, but I look like a brown-eyed Riker, especially with my beard on.

I was six when Next Generation premiered, and from that day to this one, running, biking and highway driving have been "warp speed" to me.

Fandom is a way of life: I also read and like Heinlein(!), Asimov, Clarke, Adams, both the current Robinsons, et cetera.

I see two major merits in all the Star Trek series:
1)A vision of a Free Humanity surviving and rising above itself; 2)A system of field dynamics and devices which, although fictional, makes a fine metaphor for many things in life .

What I want: a great many things. My strategy: have fun, meet people, see what grows from it, and have faith that the Universe will unfold as it should.
