We decided that we needed a promo for the site, and you can see the one created by Studio8.net HERE.
Check it out and let us know what you think.
Thanks,

(Well, since you asked for feedback, I'll be brutally honest)
I think it`s really awful! Somebody has been watching too much "Tim & Eric, Awesome Great Job!" on Cartoon Network`s "Adult Swim."
With all the great fan-film makers out there, this was the best you could get? It didn`t strike me as something "made by sci-fi fans for sci-fi fans." It seemed more like "mundanes" making fun of sci-fi fans with tired stereotypes.
Also, it did nothing to speak to me as a female member of this site - if anything it makes this site look like a place populated by the same immature, sexist guys I can find on a gazillion other sci-fi sites. Where are the words "Dating" or "Personals" in it? It's not like there are (any?) other dating sites geared toward this demographic!
I also thought that last scene could easily be misconstrued as implying the site is for gay guys to h--k up (or that, if you're a guy who likes sci-fi, you'd only be interested in other guys). I see no value in a "promo" that has so much potential to alienate both men and women who might otherwise have been interested in joining. I mean, seriously, did high school bullies make this video?

I have to agree with offworldgirl, I thought it was pretty terrible not to mention lousy audio and editing. Not all sci-fi fans look like nerds and spend every waking moment talking about it on the Internet. You didn't mention the word "dating" which I think is the main purpose of Trek Passions. I was also wondering what women would think after seeing that commercial, it just doesn't make a good impression about what this site is about. Go back to the drawing board, but look for a guy that knows how to shoot a professional commercial on video.

We were wondering why no one was commenting on the promo, and it turns out it was due to the forums being out of whack for a few days.
The video was shot by Studio8.net.
They are the guys that made the 'Why never take a light saber to a party' video.
We knew they would do something a little 'different' and believe it or not, we like it. We told them to feel free to be a little edgy, and that they could make fun of the site if they wanted.
The video and audio was shot on digital, and transferred to VHS to get the choppy look and sound on purpose. It was done in the style of a lot of early 80's promo videos.
We like the idea of 'promos' for the site though, and this one won't be the last. Future promos will definitely be more focused on the dating aspect of the site!
Maybe we should have a contest and see what comes of it?

I think, as sci fi fans, most of us have had more than enough fun made of us throughout our lives and don't want to see it happening on a site that is supposed to be dedicated to us. Keep that in mind.

`I would love for a commercial that is geared more toward appealing to women. Also no need exists to make fun of nerds or sci-fi fans to make a video that is just as humorous. It should be targeted specifically at sci-fi geeks, so stereotypes are only going to put them off of the sight.
Pretty much make the video cool with some humor, pretty much like a lot of science fiction programming itself. I don't know what the video should be exactly like, but it should make a science fiction lover yearn to check the sight out.
I did like the video, but it only made me laugh a little because of the cheesy references, but it did not make me want to go and check the sight out.
Take the PlayStation 3 commercials for example. Make them cool, fun and funny at the same time. They would never make a commercial that could make a gamer feel less of themselves, so take the same concept to science fiction lovers.
Science fiction lovers want to feel cool and proud that they love science fiction. They know that science fiction is the best thing since sliced bread, and they want that message conveyed to all that would be receptive to it.
