Maybe its that all my lawyering is done remotely but I never really saw myself as a Mike Ross, Alan Shore or (god forbid) Jimmy McGill.

Instead -- since I'm writing this on a Star Trek site -- the character I identify most closely with is Julian Bashir. Sure, he's a doctor (not enough space lawyers, sadly) but we have most of the same traits: ambitious, intelligent, hardworking and passionate about it, worldly and always helpful when you're in a tough spot.

Of course, Julian has misrable luck with women, mostly because of his high standards. He chases Jadzia Dax, tries to date Sarina, and ends up with Ezri, all of whom are easily geniuses smarter than he is. I'm the same way -- I haven't had many partners, but it's because I'm exclusively interested in a partner who is herself a geek or nerd (fans of any kind of sci-fi, fantasy, comics, games, spent all your time in the library at school, etc.) and who is my intellectual peer. I also prefer someone who feels accomplished in her chosen field or has ambitions (with a plausible plan) in that direction.

Of course, lots of people start out misreading Julian's intelligence as just being pretentious, until they get to know him. People make the same mistake with me just because I'm a lawyer in New York who speaks french and who likes Broadway. In fact, I enjoy a beer after a hard day of using a 16 inch concrete saw just as much as I enjoy talking about anti-trust at a wine tasting.
