I make one a year, at this point, but hope to do more. Dragon Con, in Atlanta is my main one. How many folks here go, or have gone, to Dragon Con?

I try to go to my local cons here in Orlando, but this year was mostly the same guests I've seen last year so there wasn't any enthusiasm to spend money on it. I'll probably go to Mega-Con in February since there are a few attendees appearing I would like to meet. Anybody feel that the prices of autographs are getting a little too high?

I think all the autographs I got at Dragon Con were $20 still. That is where they have been for several years now. I know David Carradine was wanting $30 for his a couple of years ago, as well as Brad Dourif, and I passed on both of them. Thank Ebay for the price of autogrpahs. I miss the days when you could buy a pic from a celeb for $5 or they would autograph something of yours for free. Not anymore. They even charge you to autograph your own stuff, thanks to Ebay. But, it could be worse. I know someone who spent $125 to go to a birthday party for Ace Frehley a couple of years ago, and he would sign ONE free autograph. I fyou wanted a second, it was $50!!! As greedy as Gene Simmons is, he doesn't do that, although sometimes the places he does signings will only let them sell the merchandise they are selling.
Have you got a link for Megacon? I am looking for a second con about six months off of D*C and this might be a good one. If you are interesterd, the link for D*C is www.dragoncon.org. Of course, still being more about nine months off, they don't have any confirmed guests, but they usually end up with well over 100.

I know what you mean Patrick, the days of the five dollar autograph are over. Here is a link to Mega-Con (removed) hope to see you there.

Thanks for the link. It looks like a good con, with a decent line up of guests. I would go for Noel Nell and Margot Kidder alone! Of course, making it to this would be dependent on whether I have a new car by then or not, but you never know!

I've only gone to a couple of local ones here in Minnesota and I haven't been able to attend them with any regularity. A bunch of my friends had been going to them for years before they finally convinced me to go with them. I think what I like about them is that the very same things that made you an outcast in high school make you the coolest person in the room at a sci-fi Con.

I find it amusing though that there are still cliques and "cool kids" at cons even. You know if you are an outcast at a con, then you really are hopeless. But, it seems like, as sci fi fandom gets more accepted at the general public level, we are getting a lot more annoying bully types at cons.

I have not been to a full-fledged Con in 16 years; no major shows have come to my local area, and travel's not so easy these days. Been to a few comic book cons and it was good, but not as much fun.
Know what I really miss?
Dealer rooms.
Seriously, I love the trading post that comes with every show (even though once, while working security, I attempted to prevent the guest star from entering---hey you got no hand stamp, I gots to ask).
I could always find what I like. Most of the time I couldn't afford it, but it was there to be had. Some Ferengi should take over administration of these dealer rooms---then we'll see some bargains!

The best deals are always on the last day of the show, just a couple of hours before it closes. Those dealers do NOT want to have pack stuff up!

Hi all to the fourm. I have only been to about 3 cons total. two jsut this year and the first when I was in college. I do not attened them regularly.
but after attneding the two I went to this year, I must say it can be the fun I have been missing out. I am not sure if I will go next year or not, too much debt to pay off now. but I think I will be able to do something. I will just have to wait and see.
