I just saw an advert on the History Channel for a documentary called "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed" due to air [b:8fad23ae6f]Memorial Day at 9:00 p.m. (Eastern). I couldn't find anything on the History Channel web site about it yet, didn't see anything about it on (removed), the Wookiepedia, nor (removed).

The short trailer for it inter-cut Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader's light saber battle with a martial arts sword fight, so I can probably assume that this documentary will be about the historical inspirations for various aspects of Star Wars.

I wonder how much the History Channel paid to show clips of Star Wars in this documentary? Anyway it was basically interviewees over *nalyzing the Star Wars saga and comparing it to ancient myths, legends and actual history. I mean I can easily say George got his inspiration from the 1940s movie serials like Flash Gordon. I think we can all agree that Star Wars is a fantasy but with space ships and laser guns.

I actually liked the documentary a lot. It was a refreshing change from the "behind the scenes/making of" documentaries. It covered a lot of the same ground as the "Star Wars: The Magic of Myth" (which makes sense as they interviewed the author, Mary Henderson). If you recall, that was also the name of the traveling SW museum exhibit, which I was so happy to have seen when it was in Minneapolis (though I couldn't afford the companion book at the time). I too was wondering how much in licensing fees History Channel paid to use so much footage, but also noted in the end credits that it said it was a co-production of History Channel and LucasFilm, which leaves hope that a DVD of it may be available at some point either through History.com and/or the SW Shop.

Speaking of the SW web site, I notice it got redesigned over the holiday weekend (well, launched anyway, I'm sure the redesign took months). There's also a sneak preview video trailer of the upcoming "Clone Wars" CGI animated series.

Rad. The Star Wars exhibit is in Fort Worth right now..probably going to go sometime soon.

Not to sound cynical..I think just cause it's the 30th anniversary or whatever of Star Wars..they're trying to milk it for all it's worth. Another beating of the Star Wars dead horse.

But hey. Droids are shiny.

I saw bits of it; liked it for what it was. Mostly a lot of stuff I'd already heard or at least inferred for myself over the years. As for this "dead horse" you speak of, I disagree with that assessment.
