Well, this might sounds strange for a first date, but if you consider where we are, and why we're here on his site ... How about a weekend at a Con?
Whether it's a Sci-Fi/Fantasy con, Comic-Con, RPG con ... or, Hell, why not ... A Renaissance Faire.
It's different, and as long as both of you are fans ... it would be a lot of fun.
At least I think it would be.

That does sound like a fun thing to do on a first date. You can get to know the person and what they're into in terms of what the Con is about and at the same time you can learn more about the person you're with. Plus how many people can say that their first date was at a Convention? (instead of the same old thing; dinner and a movie.)

Do you mean meeting someone for the first time? The thing is if you don't hit it off (or worse there's no attraction/chemistry) with that person, you have to spend 4 or 6 hours with them at a con. Unless you've establish a connection before going to the con. A 45 minute first-time meeting at a coffee shop would give you a good sense about a person and their personality, if that goes well then go on the first big date. An amusement park would be ideal, it would be fun for everyone.

On the other hand, though, if you can't stand each other you've got the fun of being at a convention/ren fayre/etc etc.

....'course, if they hate Sci Fi and suchlike things with a passion, they may be miserable as sin. But at least you'd get to have some fun!

Which is one of the many reason why I date geeks only. It's such a core element of who I am and my way of looking at things, not to mention my choices of pasttimes.

Meeting at a con? Potentially a good idea, but first you would want to have ascertained before hand that there was that "spark" in the first place.

A con is one for a little later, when that has been established and you want to spend some time together enjoying a flight of fancy.

I think a Con is a good idea for the same reason that has already been posted here, if you don't hit it off then you are at least at a place that YOU would have fun. Chances are that you have told your date before hand where you're going so if they aren't a fan then they would let you know before you went there..no?

I like the kind of dates that let you get to chat and get to know each other more than ones where the focus is on the things you do on a date. How else will you know if you want to see this person again? I like men that like to chat, if you can talk to eachother doesn't really matter much what you do on dates because you know that you like this person as a person rather than a date. make sense?..lol It does to me Smile

So to speak.

I actually did a first date at a con once. Of course, we had met at a party and really hit it off, talking for hours, and spoken for hours on the phone aftwerwards. But, our first "official" date was a sci fi con. Dixie Trek 88 in Atlanta as I recall. For the whole weekend! Very Happy

I think it be a great idea meet up at a con, for all the reason posted above, and for safety, if there isn't guard there to help then run to thr nearest klingon, they will safe you and great to party with.
And I think most guys that would be asking a girl/guy to con, would be kind , nice ,caring guys. You have a better time find a good guy there than at a bar
so
Con = great date

A con is a great first date, but can get really expensive. Laughing Still, I would rather be able to share a con with someone than just a mundane date. If a lady is willing to go to a con, she is obviously pretty special.
