Questions about BS... Why didn't they take more of the cylon baby's blood and utilize it for othe sick people. Is it just me or is Sharon and #6 really HOT! What is #6's first and last name? What the heck happen on the last episode? The last episode was kinda dissapointing not too sure what to think about it. Maybe I'll boycot the epidsode for awhile.

Baltar's Six doesn't have a first and last name. When she was on Caprica, she probably had a cover, but discarded it when the Cylons attacked. Now, there's the Pegasus Six, who Baltar calls Gina...

For me, the hotties of New BSG are Number Six, Dualla and Racetrack.

On the subject of old vs new, my take on this th---- issue is this; Rather than see the new version as a remake i see it as a product of it's time as the origional was therefore they both stand up equally well on their own but have differences when compated to each other.
The origional has stood the test of time as well as the first star wars film but looks a little dated when compared with modern prouductions.
My opinion is this, simply enjoy both of them for what they are fun and escape from the C@@P of modern life if only for an hour....

Yes, some folks take the term "remake" into an *nalytical context I prefer not to dwell in when it comes to enjoying my fantasy and scifi shows. I like to watch whatever comes on within its own context and simply enjoy it or not (of course prefering those I enjoy ). The "militant purists", I don't quite get. I certainly have my opinions on what I may enjoy more or less, but in general I tend to have a pretty wide range of acceptance, as the artists who put these shows together for my enjoyment, pretty much all have more talent in this regard that I do - so I simply sit back and enjoy it all.

Hmmmm, ramble much

cheers

NEW episodes in October!!

I know there are a few of you out there opposed to the new series. Have you seen it? If they had done this show with a different name, not building (ok stealing) the Galacita name would you like it?

I'm surprised about Bennedict being upset, I mean if someone approached me for an interview with an actor who would play my part of an old TV show I did years ago, I'm pretty sure it's going to be shown in some form of media (TV, Internet or DVD).

I would like to see any links to what he wrote for his side of the story.

The original "Starbuck and Starbuck at Starbucks" interview
was pretty amusing when they aired it on the SciFi special.

I remember reading the Dirk Benedict rant a while ago.

I did a quick internet search, and you can find it at:

Er...what parts did you think might upset women, cooky37?

Before I comment on how my two X chromosomes reacted, I'd
love to hear what you think should be upsetting to women.

Rather than post a whole bunch of replies to everyone, I am just gonna address everyone.

Personally, I loved the old Battlestar Galactica and was excited when I heard they were doing a new series. I was then shocked when I heard about the changes to Starbuck and Boomer. But, I have never been one to let my love for something old keep me from checking out something new (unless it is the new remake of The Wicker Man. grrrr....) with an open mind.

When I saw the mini series, I was completely blown out of the water and have continued to be since the new series started airing. The richness of the stories, the quality of the writing, acting, directing, etc, easily puts this even above B5 in my book, as the best sci fi EVER on television.

I really can not understand the TOS fans who refuse to see the quality of the show just because it isn't exactly like TOS BSG. IN a world we all scream for quality sci fi programming on television, something like the new BSG should be celebrated, not decried.

I remember going through this with Star Trek when TNG first came on. I was a wee lad of 4 when Star Trek TOS originally aired. It was my first memory of sci fi and got me into the genre. From that time in my life, I really only remember pretty colors, cool ships and aliens, and phasers. It is only as I got older that I understood what Trek was actually about. But, it is still my first love in this Genre. That doesn't mean I couldn't appreciate TNG, and still think it is the best of the Trek series.

There is room in my heart for both versions of BSG as well. There should be in every sci fi fans heart, if they enjoy quality. We could just settle back and remake old tv shows that are exactly like the ones we watched as kids, but I think they would not find an audience today like they did 20 or 30 years ago. The world has changed and sci fi needs to keep up with those changes if it wants to keep an audience. Give me Stargate over Lost in Space any day. Not because LIS was bad, but because Stargate is better for this time. Twenty years from now, I hope I can say that about another show instead of Stargate. The staple of sci fi has always been to embrace the future. You don't need to discard the past, but don't try to dwell there.

Science fiction is always at its best when it makes us think, and there has never been a sci fi series better at this than the new BSG. So many stories ripped straight from today's news make it into BSG and give you a different perspective that it makes my jaw drop constantly.

As for Dirk Benedict, let's face it, he is angry because he didn't get a part in the new series as meaty as Richard Hatch did and he ain't working. I guarantee you he would be singing a different tune if he was on the show now. It is pure sour grapes on his part.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinions. But many of us
disagree, and find the new BSG to be lacking many of the
things you are praising about it.

I would agree if I agreed the new BSG was as good as you think it
is. But I think its much more of a 90210 meets "Red Dawn" in space --
not the quality show you are describing. I have to tape it and watch
it later because I can't sit through more than about ten minutes before
I slip into a coma.

I don't find any of the characters compelling or likable -- I honestly
don't care enough about them to be sad if something bad happens
to them, or even hate them enough to want something bad to happen
to them. I'm not trying to criticize your tastes, but I have been
faithfully watching the show since the miniseries aired, and I am one
of the original series fans who has separated the new show from the old
show and tried to appreciate the new show for what it is (even if it's
not what I consider BSG) -- it's just that I haven't found anything much
to appreciate!

fringey wrote: There is room in my heart for both versions of BSG as well. There should be in every sci fi fans heart, if they enjoy quality.

There was room in my heart for a new version of BSG. There still
is. I just don't care for the current version airing on SciFi. You think
it's high quality, and I think it falls far short of such praise.

Your language presupposes that this show is quality, and anyone
who disagrees must have some non-valid reason, which, essentially,
shuts down all debate. Of course, as Ninjabear has pointed out,
I'm a blissfully ignorant, mentally deficient bubble-dweller, so I
will perservere with the debate anyway.

fringey wrote: The staple of sci fi has always been to embrace the future. You don't need to discard the past, but don't try to dwell there.

You also don't need to drink the sand just because there's no water.
If you like the new BSG, that's great, more power to you, I'm happy
for you. But it's not fair to lump into the same category all the people
who DON'T like the new BSG. Not everyone who criticizes it is stuck
in the past -- some of us have different opinions on what makes a
quality, compelling show.

I find so many of the plots in the new BSG to be recycled from classic science fiction literature, but presented as reinventing the wheel rather than as paying homage to the old convetions and tricks. When I can
predict the ending of the show in the first few minutes, and then not even enjoy how they have the story unfold, it tries my patience.

I agree with you that one of the amazing things about science fiction is
the ability to give you a new perspective on something happening
right in front of you -- to "defamiliarize the familiar" -- but to me,
the new BSG does not do this at all. It just whines and drags things
out far longer than it should without entertaining me.

The special effects are impressive, the costuming is good, the acting
is solid. But the writing, the plots, the characterizations...it's just
sub-par as an overall package. And that's not at all by comparison to
the old show -- it's a stand alone, empirical judgment, and I entirely
admit that it is my opinion, and I do not in any way mean to
imply that other people should not or cannot enjoy the show or
find it amazing. But I have a right to my own opinions too, without
being dismissed as someone dwelling in the past.
