Star Trek 2009 SUCKS!!!

So we're all clear here, I had no problem with yet more Trek.
Replace all the actors, new sets, costumes--essentially what happened with TNG.
What I object to is wildly deviating from the course Roddenberry so carefully plotted.
Once they veered as far off course as they could get, it stopped being Trek and became very, very stupid.
Kirk as a jaggov punk.

Chekov as Wesley Crusher.

Sulu's amazing Ginsu-magic folding blade turned him into Sho Kosugi.

Scotty's raunchy ---- for the ship ("I'd like to get hold'a her nacelles.")
and what was that follwing Scotty around?
Looked like the Creature from the Black Lagoon humped an oompa-loompa.

Worst of all was Spock necking with Uhura---seriously, did we all see the same movie?
I don't care how much money it made, or how many people make excuses for the failings of this lame-ass pile of dren.
You can call it a corn dog all day long but it remains a sugar coated, batter fried turd on a stick---WAKE UP AND SMELL THE RAK'TI'JINO, PEOPLE!

`Wow. I noticed that the dating and dating experience forum pages haven't had a post for over a year and after reading the venom you are spewing, I can see why.
I was excited to see a Trek dating site and looked forward to meeting other people who enjoy Star Trek in particular and sci- fi in general as I am the only one in my family and immediete circle of friends who do enjoy sci-fi.
However, I see that ninjabear has set himself up as the end all and be all of trekdom and rather than the sheer joy of a phenomanal series that has spanned over 40 years I see his name spewing more venom on any page that has to do with any sci-fi.
Apparently God and Gene Roddenberry has dubbed him the only soul on this planet to know what Mr. Roddenberry thought, loved or wanted out of the series and life in general.
Hate to tell ya Ninja bear but it is FICTION and meant to be enjoyed as such.
If all members of Trek passions are this vile and untastefull and nasty, no one will want to join.

Roddenberry's vision included all races, ideas, idiologies treated with respect and acceptance. Think about that Ninja.

43 years a Star Trek fan, I think I know what I'm talking about.

We watched the uh, movie, on my woman's big screen TV; she likes sci-fi and considers Rambo-IV a date movie, so don't honk her off.

`I loved it. I think it brought star trek to the younger generations, I myself had never really watched TOS until it came out. It let me fall in love with those OS characters. you can hate how they went off the time line but you would have hated it done any other way. would you rather have the series die? cause it would if you had a say in things. which thankfully you don't.

Despite my issues with the film, I definitely wouldn't go as far to say that it "sucked." On a purely entertainment basis, it was very enjoyable. Casting was good for the most part. I think the only way for hardcore Trekkers to accept this latest version is to take it as an alternative re-boot of the series without comparing it to the rest of the canon. If you start comparing you will go crazy. I myself was not too happy leaving the theatre the first time. I got over it.

My main issue was that it was billed as "this is how Kirk and Spock first met" which wasn't exactly true (according to what has already been established anyway). I thought JJ could have made a lot of people happy by ending the film with some sort of timeline repair. ie the Enterprise/crew going back in time to repair the damage, resetting everything to its proper order. I'm also not too thrilled about the "hippifying" of the crew. It seems to be a common trait of contemporary film making that we impose the generation X/Y/millennial stereotype onto all of the characters. All the heroes have to be flawed, hardcore, extreme, sexy, etc... I can respect that the new cast wanted to put their own stamp on it but I'm just saying...

I was totally jarred by the awkward Nokia product placement and opening "young Kirk" car chase scene.

As someone who grew up in Iowa and driven up to 120 mph on back roads, I was knocked right out of belief during the "Young Kirk" car chase scene.

I can tell you gentlemen and ladies from experience that if you are over 55 mph on an Iowa back road and you take your hands off the wheel, which the "Young Kirk" does at least twice (when he waves to his brother, and then when he slaps the wheel), you *will* lose control of the car and careen off the road into a cornfield.

Yup, been there, done that, rolled the car, seen the cornstalks coming in through the passenger side window and thought "oh $#!^". I thought this was by far the weakest part of the movie.

Whereas young Spock was brilliantly cast, I didn't think young Kirk looked enough like Kirk, or seemed confident enough behind the wheel. It takes a lot of strength to control steering at those speeds, and the kid just didn't seem in control of the vehicle.

And yeah, I got the Beastie Boys "Sabotage" reference, I just thought the whole NOKIA product placement was way too overstated and that the young actor should have been directed to put more muscle into gripping/stearing.

`The new Trek was necessary to catch the attention of new, younger fans. The franchise was already having a hard time remaining relevant, the new one simply allowed JJ Abrahms to do his own new thing while still holding true to the original in certain capacities.

I loved the movie, I was balling by the time title credits came up after the prologue. I feel people that didn't like it are too much of purists with their Trek.

Sometimes you gotta make something from 40 years ago sexier and it'll sell like hot cakes.

I liked it as a movie, the same way I liked "Highlander II", but to call it Star Trek was something close to blasphemy, though I liked the younger version of Scotty.

Now, if this was a science fiction movie, this is the part where the brilliant boy genius that everybody has been ignoring up to this point, pipes up and tells the balding Captain that by cross linking the Warp Core, the Impulse engine and a reverse framistat, then dividing the warp field lattice by the square root of last Tuesday, he can get them all home.
