Well if you haven't heard by now The Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike last week. Apparently they want a cut of the DVD and Internet revenue the networks receive. It's getting ugly at this point with actors and showrunners not crossing the picket line. The networks are taking action sending breach-of-contract notices to showrunners and suspending pay. Crewmembers are also getting pink slips because production has stopped on certain TV shows. Shows are being affected, 24 has been delayed on FOX and more reality TV will be on our television screens. So what do you think?

The strike hits Canada, productions have shut down for Bionic Woman and Battlestar Galactica.
According to vice president of the Canadian branch of the AMPTP Don Cott, the end is in sight for several shows. He estimates that Aliens in America and Reaper will stop production later this month, Supernatural will stop filming in early December, Men in Trees will shoot through mid January, and Smallville will continue production through January 23. Psych, The 4400, and Kyle XY have already gone dark.

Sometimes I think the Writers are hacks and are getting paid too much.
not only do the recycle ideas they recycle them all the same week.
I saw two shows both with Polygomists.
Three shows where amnesia was a major seasonal plot line
Will someone shut that man up

I read that the average writer gets $200,000 a year, living in L.A. isn't cheap either, and I'm sure the top writers are getting more than that. Personally I'm not a big fan of strikes, each side wants to play hardball and the end results are other people losing their jobs like crewmembers and staff on TV shows.

WGA calls AMPTP proposal a "bad deal", the two sides will resume talks on Tuesday.

As everyone BUT the writers gets a cut of DVD sales and syndication, I think the Writers are right to strike. Screw the Big Pigs. Give the writers what they deserve.

I think they already have a cut of DVD sales they want it to go up some more. The main issue is shows shown on the Internet which people download. I hope this is resolved soon, I see both sides as being stubborn.
