Yes you have read it correctly J.J. Abrams is considering Matt Damon to play the young Kirk when he creates the new movie about Kirk's and Spock's Academy years. He has even gone to the degree of getting consent off William Shatner to cast him in the role. Now I have serious problems with having this guy playing Kirk for a start he is too old, Damon is about 36 years old William Shatner played Captain Kirk years later and he was aged then about 35 years. So Damon will have to play a guy in his teens or early twenties ...can he pull that off?? Another problem I have is everytime I see Matt Damon these days all I think about is how he is portrayed in that movie 'Team America World Police' and him saying "I'm Matt Damon" in a really dopey voice And finally and ultimately he doesn't look the part he's not the chick magnet that Shatner was back then.
I don't have much faith in the idea anyway I think constantly doing prequels is backward steps and really not what Trek is about. Star Trek is about exploring the future, the unknown, not going back into the past!! It will be interesting to see who is cast as Spock though. I just hope that Abrams is able to make it successful because so far its not looking good! |

I'm pretty sure J. J. Abrams is letting those rumors fly about a prequel, I don't think it will be in the academy days. You know, Matt is not a bad actor and he's a big draw at the boxoffice, I can see him pulling off a Kirk imitation. Just pray that Ben Affleck doesn't get the role of Spock. |

lol Well there's no one more than me Rayman who doesn't want to see Ben Afleck with any part of this new Trek venture. But there are loads of famous actors out there .......... Anyway apart from that I hope your right and its not an Academy thing ......So do you think its going to be about Kirk as a younger Captain then or as a Lieutenant on a another ship. |

My guess is we'll see the original Enterprise, Kirk, Bones, Spock and crew possibly on their first mission. At least that's what I like to see. |

I hope not rayman.
Trek has always been about the future, not re-hashing the past. A better idea for trek is the Peter David New Frontier series, using a few familar faces and taking the whole timeline forward and NOT coppin out into the past they will only push away most of the fans and screw up canon. |

Actually Luke Perry is a big Trek fan; he could do Kirk justice but I agree that meal has been served, eaten, the dishes, pots and pans washed. Time to cook up something new.
Would be interesting though, to take a classic script and use new actors, costumes, props, sets and B----in CGI to see what it should have looked like if they'd had the budget and the technology back in the sixties. |

Some Where out there is a fantastic script for a trek movie. but I don't think it is a prequal. Hey maybe another (yes I said another) time travel story. They always seem to do well. Picard and Janeway go back to stop the Jem ha dar from taking out a young kirk.........ok maybe not |

I don't want them to re-cast the original cast. It seems unnecessary. Why not use crew members from TNG/DS9/Voyager?
Don't get me wrong, I love TOS, but how many times can you take the same characters and put them through their paces without doing more harm than good? Besides, as a wise old Vulcan saying goes... only Shatner is Shatner. |

I totally agree with you here. I really enjoy the series and would love to see Calhoun on screen. |
