Has anyone seen the picture of Green Arrow, as he will appear on Smallville this year, in TV Guide this week. Kind of cool but not as cool as MikeGrell's version in the comics. Of course, they have gone away from that anyway. At least we FINALLY get a superhero in an actual costume!!!!

I've got problems with Smallville. I'd love to understand how it is that Clark meets all these people BEFORE he actually becomes Superman and moves to Metropolis. I mean, he's met or will meet Lex Luthor, Bruce Wayne, Auqaman, Brainiac, Zod, and I'm sure a few others that I've missed seeing. Oh and let's not forget Lois Lane, who he isn't suppose to know he becomes Superman.

Now, I know this sounds silly, but can't the writers come up with other characters that would fill in the spots for these characters? But I know the way t.v. works. Sweeps Week always calls for "Special Episodes". But gezzzzz. Can't they stick to some sort of canon that matches the comics?

With that said, I'd say the series has gotten better over the years it's been on. I actually did get to see a lot of episodes of last year's run. Pretty good stuff. And it's about time they let the kid fly!

But why should it matter if what happens in the show doesn't tie up with the comics? I haven't ever read a Superman comic but I think its a great show and its having a sxith series so the show's creators must be doing something right.

I can see your perspective, but I would also point out that the comic book "canon" you mention changes almost every decade to fit in with the times. For an interesting view on this, watch the documentaries, "Look, Up In The Sky" & "Comic Book Heroes Unmasked (I thnk, it might be "Superheroes Unmasked:) Superman has canged probably more than any other comic book hero in history. And NO live action Superman TV show has ever really fit in with the comic book canon, if you look at it realistically. If they did, we would have had more bad guys in costumes, etc. I enjoy Smallvile as almost an alternate reality version of the character, so have no problems. If you don't try and reconcile it with the comics, it is jun fun.

Well Pat, I just realized I was being a bit hypocritical on that situation. Sorry. I guess I could look at Smallville as an alternate reality for the big boy scout.

I was asked once during the third season of Enterprise if I thought it would be the last. (This was before they decided to go one more year.) I said... "Wouldn't it be ironic that the last show based on Roddenberry's dream would last the same amount of years as the original?"

What I was really upset about was that I thought it was well written. Yeah, it messed with canon, but I looked at it as a re-write to bring the franchies into a more modern way of look at things we're going through today. And frankly, not much of the canon was fiddled with. But even the original screwed up a bit here and there and it wasn't until Next Generation came along that the "Powers That Be" decided to actually work with what was used in Classic Trek. And even THEN, canon got messed with. So to me, when I hear a Trek fan say stuff about canon being one of the reasons Enterprise didn't work, I have to ask myself just how much they know about Trek all together.

But again, you're right to call me on this. If there's one thing I hate it's a hypocrite and even worse, I hate being one.

I wouldn't say you were being hypocritcal, you just hadn't put the two shows in the same spotlight so to speak.

As to Enterprise, it wasn't just the messing with canon that bothered me (which they started with the VERY first scene of Broken Bow. LOL) but the whole betrayal of Roddenberry's vision. I understood where they were trying to show how the future he imagined came to be, but there were things that just didn't work. The third season episode where Archer stole the warp drive and left the other ship stranded was the breaking point for me. The good of the many may outweigh the needs of the few, but you don't commit was is essentially a warcrime to accomplish it. Had there been an episode where Archer had to pay for the consequences of that action, I might have stood for it better. Instead, he became one of the heroes of the war, a founder of the Federation. Cripes. Can you imagine what Gene would have said about that?

As for Smallville, i have yet to see anything that would conflict with Siegel and Shuster's basic vision, so I can live with it. Especially as those two never gave us any backstory for Clark as a teen. I am enjoying the speculative nature of the show and am finding it interesting how they are trying to tie it into the movie versions, albeit not always successfully. My one MAJOR complaint about the show is that every superpowered perspn he runs into was somehow affected by Kryptonite from the meteor shower. Can't we just have a few lab accidents, natural mutations, super soldier formulas, or alien interventions? Lex even lost his hair to the meteors. I made a joke about that early on and when it actually was in onbe of the episodes, I almost fell out of my chair laughing about it.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed with this ep. Semeed like a lot of nothing happened for too long in the show and this whole thing of using hoodies and sunglass instead of costumes works well for Green Arrow, but not for Impulse and Cyborg. It is annoying me that we can not seem to have costumes and masks.

Definitely a back door pilot for a spin-off. Martian Manhunter, who we got a brief glimpse of some eps ago will show up too this season. We were discussing in a Yahoo Group who we would like to see show up. My personal votes are for (other than the biggies like Hawkman and Green Lantern) Elongated Man, the Phantom Stranger and the Spectre. The latter two would give Smallville a whole new Dimension.

I thought the episode was pretty good myself, I do agree that the hoods and sunglasses should only be on Green Arrow, it looked like they were trying to make a cool look for the teenage audience. What's with The Flash being called Impulse, you have everyone's original titles but him? It did look like a pilot for a spinoff series and to be honest I would probably watch it if the CW decided to do it.

He is Impulse because he is NOT the Flash. This is Bart Allen, not Barry. Bart is Barry's grandson, and a separate character in the DC Universe. Check out the brief info from the GN collection, Reckless Youth. (removed)

Of course, THIS Bart won't be from the 30th century. Not sure why they didn't use Barry, but I have heard talk of a Flash film possibly coming from David Goyer (writer of Batman Begins and the Blade Trilogy) which could keep him off limits. Luckily they did have Impulse to work with.

I see, I never was a big fan of the DC universe so with the exception of the big 5 (Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Batman, and Captain Marvel) the other heroes back storys I don't know too much about. I could have sworn that the first episode he appeared in they were hinting he was The Flash, oh well live and learn.

I thought so too, and was a little confused at first when I saw he was called Impulse in something I read online before the ep. Then I remembered the character.

`I hear that the guy who plays Lex Luther may be leaving the show because his contract is up. The final ep will tell if he is or not. I'm thinking that if he does, his father will become the bad guy again.

`If it weren't for the Writers stike I would say they could have wrapped up the whole thing this year and be done with it. The last new ep had Clark going to "Flight school" and wiped Lana's memory. all that is left is for Clark to get fitted for the tights
