Posted: Post subject: Brainstorming Trek Passions Promotion Ideas |
|
|
We are spending 100% of our time programming, so the only promotion of the site is via links from other sites (and word of mouth by members).
Due to the unique nature of the site, we get mentioned on Sci Fi blogs, and occasionally in a newspaper or magazine article as well (and there was the few times where we were mentioned on TV...Conan O'Brian, Tucker Carlson, Keith Oberman).
We thought we should open a thread asking members to come up with creative (dirt cheap) promotion ideas. Since we are completely free, we don't expect to do paid advertising any time soon, although we may try some down the road.
In the meantime, if you feel creative, post whatever you come up with.
Thanks,

I forget whose idea was this, but someone said making fliers and distributing them at the big sci-fi conventions they have every year. On the flyer you could put Trek Passions (bold letters) The first dating site for sci-fi fans, with some graphic sci-fi art. Hopefully in the future you'll create Horror Passions for people who are into horror movies.

Check out the Promote Trek Passions page we are setting up. (The link is on the left side of every page of the main site).
Until we can really focus on site promotion, we are going to place some images that members can print out to take to conventions...if they would like to.
Since there is a cost involved in printing out images, we certainly don't expect members to do this...but if anyone wants to help us out by doing so, we'd love it.
Thanks for the reminder/suggestion!

T-shirts. We can put the images you provide on T-shirts. I know I have some blank iron on sheets lying about

As Cooky mentioned, come up with some T-shirts that folks could purchase and wear to cons, etc. Buttons are also a good idea and cheap. People love to read t-shirts and buttons. They are great conversation starters and could be kept at a reasonable price for TP members. Especially buttons that we could purchse for a buck or so! Otherwise, you just need someone to do the word of mouth thing well.

Cooky37 and Fringey, thanks for the idea about t-shirts and buttons. It's been something we have had on the to-do list for quite some time, but it looks like we need to go ahead and get things rolling.
We're setting up a Trek Passions Merchandise area via CafePress, that lets us pick products and upload images. There is very little control over the cost though, so some things are more expensive than we think they should be...but there are a couple of items that aren't too bad.
We're still figuring out their system, so some items will change, and additional options will appear over the next few days.
Let us know what you think of the items and images in the shop.
Thanks,

I will bleed for a KISS tattoo and have a few others in mind, but I will not get a TP tattoo.

There's a 5 spot in it for you if you do.
10 if it's on your forehead.
