I know, I read the article and inwardly cringed. Yea J.J. did good in creating 'Lost' but I think that Paramount is trying to squeeze everything that they can out of 'Star Trek'. I think that with the failure of the last TNG movie and 'Enterprise' Paramount needs to take a breather from anything related to 'Star Trek' past, presant, or future-wise. The wounds from 'Enterprise' are just to fresh and the pressure for J.J. to succeed is going to be tremendous and when/if he fails, it won't be pretty.

I'm still on the fence with this announcement, I would have to see J. J.'s idea for the script, maybe even production art to see if this will work or not. I do remember a story idea years ago of a young Kirk and Spock in the academy days, looks like that's what Abrams is going for. I do think we need new blood to breathe new life into the franchise.

True it does need new life, but if the movie fails then they are going to say that the series was done for when 'Enterprise' flopped and Paramount couldn't see it. I feel that Paramount is trying to squeeze all it can out of the franchise and that is ruining it for everyone.

I was thinking about it last night and I'm not too crazy about another prequel. I'm hoping that Abrams will abandon that idea and go for a new ship and crew after Next Generation. I do agree it's a little too early but knowing Paramount it was going to happen sooner than later, I think they made $one billion in theatrical revenues from the films.

A prequel wouldn't be my first choice, either. BUT, if I get Trek with good key people and no micromanaging from the effing suits, then I'll be happy.

Oh, and no killer Bs.

Something after the last TNG move would be cool, maybe like a 'what's happened since the treaty' kind of thing. Although, a prequal wouldn't be so bad because they could do the Romulan-Earth War or the formation of the Federation because those would be cool things to see.

Romulans would be the first choice for an enemy, cos while the Klingons use their might the Romulans use their intellect. In Nemesis the Romulans could have been the coolest bad in the movies since Khan, the Klingons and the Borg, but instead they assassinated the Romulans I was hoping to see get the movie treatment within 2 minutes of the opening credits and replaced them with some lame clone called Shinzon and the green goblin Remans. I guess the suits can't relate to a Star Trek bad guy unless they look overtly monstrous in some way.
As for something new, Id like to see a DSN movie where the Q continuum are at war with the Prophets and DS9 is caught in the middle. The Wesley entity and the Sisko demi-god could be instrumental in preventing the war from destroying the known galaxy, but Wesley unfortunately dies in a really horrible way, torn apart by temporal stresses or something. As for a TV series then it should be a non-Fed ship but set in the Trek universe. The crew shud b a bunch of aliens with a single human character ala Farscape, so there'd be no prime directive and no holodeck, just guys that try to make ends meet, keep the ship running by doin dodgy deals and try to get laid by their colleagues as often as possible just like normal people.

What about a 'Voyager' or 'Enterprise' movie? In those they could team up the old crews from the ships and have them fight some big bad evil, and it looks like they were going to win but they failed, died as a result and have the big bad win, dooming the enitre Federation.

Or what about a "mirror universe" movie? They could delve into the reasons why the Federation was "evil" and what happened with the Vulcans (obvously we saw that Cochrane shot the Vulcans when they made First Contact leading towards bad relations), they could also get into the mirror characters.

The one and only. And apparently there's no soild fact that Abrams is going to do a 'young Spock and Kirk' movie and that Rick Berman isn't going to attached to the project. I know a few people who are happy at that, but as for me, I'm not sure. People say that Berman was the one who ruined the series with 'Enterprise' and 'Nemesis'. What do you guys think?

You know I really like J. J. Abrams, I do think he can bring something new to Star Trek. I must have been the first to jump for joy when I read Berman wasn't attached to the project. Let's face it the first two seasons of Enterprise isn't very good. Another pilot dealing with time travel (Temple War storyline), and some of the episodes were by the numbers, and missed opportunities to do a proper prequel. Berman made the Vulcans an arrogant, annoying race instead of the illogical beings we know and love. I'm glad he's out of a Star Trek project, hopefully forever.

That how some of my friends feel. Also there are rumors (nothing solid mind you) that Ben Afflack might star as Kirk in the new movie. I'm soooo hoping that isn't the case. But hey...if it is true then maybe J-Lo can play Uhura.

Here's the link:

I think it's one of those Internet rumors started by someone, just like Afflack was going for the role of Capt. America. I hope it's not true, Ben can't act. Maybe Matt Damon can play Bones and Jim Carrey as Mr. Spock.
