Well I say yes and no. I would love to see another great film like the 1982 classic but the story needs to be very good and Carpenter has to direct.
Kurt Russell should not be in it as the story should be based on others. But I would love to find out where the Thing came from. |

You should read the comic-book "The Thing From Another World", a 2 issue limited series published by Dark Horse Comics. It's the sequel to the 1982 film, the artwork captures The Thing's transformations perfectly, I would love to see that story made into a movie. I remember Sci-Fi channel was doing a remake miniseries, but I haven't heard anything for two years, I guess the project is dead. |

Yes I've got the Dark Horse comics. There are others that follow on after the first two. The art work in the first two is amazing but then in goes down hill.
The mini series on sc-fi channel is now dead, thats a shame. |

No. But I'll see it if Carpenter directs. Especially if Russel is in it. |

I don't have much faith in Carpenter since he gave us Escape from L.A., Memoirs of an Invisible Man, Ghost of Mars, and Vampires. I will give him "Cigarette Burns", the episode he directed for the Showtime Masters of Horror TV series, he did a good job on that one. But he screwed up once again as producer of The Fog remake, you can tell he only did it for the money because the movie totally sucked. I say get Neil Marshall the director of Dog Soldiers and The Descent to do The Thing sequel. |

BLASPHEMER!!!!
If you want to dislike a John Carpenter movie, dislike Ghosts of Mars. Just didn't thrill at all. But, I do think a sequel to The Thing could be great, but I think it should be completely distanced from the original. Or at least, should not have Kurt Russell in it as too many years have passed. I would say that maybe they find another creature in the ice, take it back to a small town and it gets loose. You know one of those towns where everyone knows everyone else? The level of distrust rackets up, while not depending on cabin fever as a reason for it.

Hey I was a big fan of Carpenter with his earlier films, The Thing is my all-time favorite. Let's not forget he produced The Fog remake, so he hasn't lost his touch, need I say more? |

I don't think he has either. I actually liked Vampires as it was a good adaptations of the Steakley novel, and Escape From L.A., while not up to the original. was still fun. His early films like Halloween, The Fog, Assault on Precint 13, Escape From New York, The Thing and,Dark Star are classics in my book. I wasn't thrilled with the remakes of The Fog or Assault on Precint 13, but remakes generally don't compare with the originals. Memoirs of and Invisible Man and Ghosts of Mars DID suck! I haven't seen Cigarette Burns yet, though.

I think Carpenter has lost his passion for horror, he outright did the Fog remake for money, he even says so. But I don't want to bash the guy, he did give us those classics. The episode "Cigarette Burns" in the Showtime Masters of Horror series he directed is decent, he's also doing another episode for season 2. |

Oh, I doubt he has lost his passion for it. But, he may have burned out for a while. Masters of Horror almost makes me want to get Showtime, but I think I will wait for a box set of each season on DVD instead.

I was just reading on Scifi.com that they are looking to make this a prequel instead of a sequel. Much better idea in my opinion. This will give the writers a better chance to stretch without having to worry about stepping on the Carpenter film's toes, so to speak.

I don't know about a prequel, the only thing that works for me is when the Norwegians scientists discover the ship. I hope they don't try to go back thousands of years when the ship crashes on earth. Anyway I'm not going to get too excited until it's officially in production in a studio.
