Maybe it's just me but why does the new Fantastic Four series have to look like the latest Japanese anime? Not to mention the dialogue on the episode last night was pretty horrendous. Seems that's what the kids like to see nowadays, I miss the days of The Batman animated series.

I, personally, can't stand Japanima. I agree. What happened to the good old cartoon styles like Batman and (dare I say it) Ghostbusters? When they came on the scene the art was fresh yet still showed no influence from Japan. Now it seems that's all you see. I have to say that not everyone in the world likes Japanima or Manga or whatever you call it. I think it's ugly art. And a lot of the stories just don't make sense.

Again, that is just one man's opinion.

Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, or ----, or greed.
Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land.
Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert out of his home and yours.
Shun him. Drive him back into his jungle lair.
For he is the harbinger of death.

I don't hate Japanese animation, hell I grew up with Star Blazers, Battle of the Planets and even woke up every morning just to see Robotech when it first aired back in 1985. I just feel it has too much influence when it comes to companies producing new shows for television. I attend a Mega-Con once a year here in Florida, and I saw at least 50 kids between 10 to 18 years old wearing costumes of their favorite anime character. Like I said before this is what the kids want.

I agree that most "mainstream" anime is, well, ugly. A lot of it is referred to as "sugar pop" (or another term I cant quite remember without coffee at this hour ) and it is designed for very young children in Japan. Unfortunately, that is the anime & manga that is easiest to come by in America due to the rating system and distrubutors. It also tends to remind me of those really horrible paintings in the 60's & 70's. You know, the ones with the children? Huge eyes and such *shivers* Those paintings still creep me out.

Most storylines don't make sense when translated to English. There are concepts of religion & society that are incorporated into the artform that Americans cannot understand due to alck of exposer to Japanese Culture.

Originally, Anime was used to tell folktales in Japan. It has evolved over the centuries and, unfortunately again, a lot of what you see today heavily influanced by American art forms.

Yeah, I am an fan, but I am very picky about what I buy/watch, and I rarely go for the dubbed versions.

One of the best "Americanized" animes out there is Princess Mononoke and I always suggest it when people ask what to watch.

That's my 2cents
Shadow

Also an anime fan here. Not a huge fan of Mononoke, I'll admit. Still a fan of Starblazers and Robotech (not Gatchaman, tho).

My shelf also has titles like Divergence Eve, Gravion, Mahoromatic and Those Who Hunt Elves.
