Out of curiousity, how many folks here, male of female, are kind of gunshy about sending someone you find interesting an email out of fear of being rejected? I will be honest and be the first to raise my hand. I know I would much rather have someone contact me first as that makes it much easier.

Seriously though is it really that bad to have a few 'not read', 'read, but no reply' emails in your sent folder if in the end you do end up wiith someone.
Though having said that it can be rather depressing when those particular type of emails get into double figures. |

I have met women that have contacted me first so it can happen, but what about "the one" that got away when you didn't send that email or asked for that phone number? If you're really interested in a person suck it up and go for it, if there's a rejection don't take it personally, their probably searching for a type of look or personality you don't have. Move on to the next person. |

To both Jamie and Rayman. I never said I wouldn't take the first step, just that I prefer the other way around. And thanks for the offer Jamie. I think we are probably just not meant to be. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Yeah, I am not good at being the rejecter. Not enough practice.

''Its not you, its me!'', ''Its not you, its me!''
If anyone hasn't put their Babel fish in today then basically what Fringey is saying is ''You suck, I am too good for you.'' Brute!

But returning to the topic that Fringey was originally seeking discussion on, since us guys do out number the lasses as on any dating site I think we would end up rather disappointed if we just sat back waiting for that email we desire,
''Hi!, I read your profile and you sound really interesting. And i love your photo, mmm can we chat sometime?''
What about smooching is that just too tacky?

I find it easier, because this isn't the same as getting rejected in person. At least here you know if you have a chance to ask them on a real date.

Don't worry, Jamie, he'll be kicking himself when he hears your
accent.
Plus, bonus points for referring to the Babel fish, so it IS Fringey,
and not you.

As to the topic at hand...
There's a great quote, I think by Asimov (but the allergy meds
are clouding my recall), "The cost of obtaining knowledge is never
equal to the cost of not obtaining it."
And another from "Brigadoon":
“It's the hardest thing in the world to give everything. Though it's usually
the only way to get everything.†-- Mr. Lundie
And you know I can't l go long without quoting Joss...
"Fortune favors the brave." -- from "Hush"
