ok hard decision... I was gonna go with Trek... just because well it was and still is huge and yes I love Trek. BUT I chose the new Battlestar Galactica because so far there has not been one episode I have been bored with or not liked. It has a lot of potential. |

All those series are fine series, and most of them are worthy candidates. But I had to settle on B5 as still the reigning champion. It set to tell a huge tale over five years, with a wide ranging tale, yet intimate with the characters.
Star Trek is still fabulous, but it's highs are matched by lows.
Stargate is more of an adventure story, tho high quality.
Firefly is fantastic, but needs more time to tell it's tale.
Farscape, absolutely fantastic, and along with the new BSG, a worthy challenger to the throne occcupied by B5. |

i couldnt have said it better myself...
Some worthy contenders there...
Back when B5 was airing, it beat the compitition raw...
yet all this time on, i feel it still takes the top notch by an inch or two |

I have to agree that back then when Babylon 5 was airing it was kicking everybody's butt story wise, even Deep Space Nine. There was too much of a coincidence when the Dominion War storyline came out of nowhere, after Babylon 5 had their Shadow War. |

I voted for firefly as dispite its short life it was brilliant and I still can't believe they cancelled it.
Most series take a while to find their feet but with firefly you could see all the arcs that would have played out over many seasons if it had lasted.
The other shows are all very good but have weak points, B5 last season for example. |

I voted for Star Trek. It was hard though, Firefly is so good and Stargate is right up there with Star Trek. |

How can Stargate be in third place in this poll right now. Stargate is the most kickass show ever made. Not to mention the longest running scifi show ever. I love Firefly and Battlestar Gallactica as much as the next person but Stargate is #1. What is this big obsession with Babylon five can someone please explain to me why this is winning the poll. |

Well I'm not going to bash Stargate, I really enjoy the show (I prefer Atlantis myself), but I look at it as more of a action adventure show with its own mythology. The SG1 team seems to pull a rabbit out of the hat at the last-minute, and how many times have they saved the earth from invasion? It nothing like Babylon 5 which is more character driven, where empires rise and fall, and it all comes down to a great war against the Shadows, with the light being a space station and its allies against the dark. Characters that appear one way in the beginning of season 1, and change towards the middle and end of the story arc. This is our Lord of the Rings in space. If you're into SG1 that's cool, but just remember different strokes for different folks. |

I love both Stargate series. But, to be fair, Doctor Who first
aired in 1963 and ran until 1989 or so (I think), before its lengthy
hiatus and is now back again. Even if you don't count the new episodes
as part of its run, the Doctor ran a lot longer than Stargate has yet.
Of course, I could be counting wrong. Numbers and linear thinking
are not my strong suit.
Has there been a longer running science fiction show than
Doctor Who? Can anyone think of one? |

I voted for Star Trek, but most of them are good choices; I must have missed the runoff ballots to whittle the list down to the options offered in the poll.
In order:
2. Babylon5
3. Farscape
4. Red Dwarf
5. Battlestar Galactica---the real one,
not the entirely substandard Bumblestore Golaxtuhpeer.

I must be on the wrong site....the shows I feel are most creative and intelligent (BSG--new version and Farscape) are pretty far down in the tally.
Not to diss on anyone elses tastes but I find some of the other shows on the list a bit too cartoonish for my tastes. ST-TNG was a fairly decent program (esp season 5) but Firefly and Babylon 5 were kind of snooze fests for me. Stargate/Stargate Atlantis are fun but a bit lightweight. |

No, you're not on the wrong site, it would be a pretty boring world if everyone agreed on everything. Some people like Firefly over Galactica, others prefer Babylon 5 over Star Trek. It really doesn't matter as long as you enjoy your favorites shows. |

Oh, quite right, Rayman!
Personally I'd rather watch paint dry than Firefly, and the gawd-awful "reimagining" of my beloved Battlestar Galactica has my bile coming up, but these forums are a wonderful appilication of IDIC.
