The way I see it was executive producer Berman that caused Star Trek to spiral downward with the fans. Deep Space Nine went to the dark side of technology because the writers didn't like the utopia Gene created with the original Star Trek. Then came Voyager, that's when fans started to leave, and started choosing shows like Farscape, and Stargate SG1. I will support the next movie mostly because of J. J. Abrams, as long as Berman is never in another Star Trek project again.

wll..rayman's right about Berman..and had J Michael Straczynski's show been accepted..or even proposed once Berman was out the door..this may not have come to this.

Still think a movie that combined DS9, Voyager and TNG would have been cool. But as it is, I am atleast curious. Too bad Gary Sinise is too old to play McCoy.

I don't know if the next Trek film will be worth the money, time and effort to get to the theater. The studio suits have no understanding, nor do the writers have any love for the genre, let alone a fundamental grasp of what makes Star Trek truly unique...so screw 'em.
Fans are doing their own episodes and posting them on the Internet for free and at least one of them has high enough production values, they convinced Walter Koenig to do a guest shot (for real, I saw it on ABC World News Now the other night). I have a story I'd like to see turned into an episode myself; anyone out there in the homemade Trek business can email me for more info.
Who needs Paramount---or any other overpriced bunch of schlock-mongers?

I will see the new film because I love Star Trek so much....I hope I like it but if I don't, I don't . I really liked Nemesis for what it was even if the Data story mimiced the Spock story from STII.

To take the opposite end of the spectrum here, I ask why we should support the movie if it turns out to be another craptastic failure like Enterprise. I quit watching Enterprise because it mucked around with the Star Trek I grew up on and loved so much, retconning established Star Trek canon. And the episode where Archer stole components from another ship in season 3 and left them marrooned? That was the final straw. I am sure Gene was spinning in his grave.

Now we are hearing this will be another "prequel" with Spock and Kirk in the Academy. First off, as Spock served with Pike for TWENTY years before Kirk became captain of the Enterprise, they would NOT have been in the Academy together. For another thing, Trek should not be about going backwards, but forwards. Michael Dorn and Marina Sirtis both recently commented that they felt this is a bad idea, and I agree wholeheartedly.

Come one, folks, is any Trek better than no Trek? Would we really ather be spoonfed Bermanesque crap that screws with the whole Trek universe's history than to stand up and say, "Give us something new! Give us something exciting! Don't give us retconned Trek history! Give us new characters and ships, with new adventures!" In other words, don't be sheep blindly led by those at Paramount who think we ought to accept any Trek and spend our money on it. The only way we will get good Trek is by showing we won't stand for bad Trek. If you just keep giving Paramount your money, they will decide they are right. I would sooner see Trek die with the legacy of shows like TNG, TOS, DS9, and even Voyager to remember than to keep sullying Gene's vision with this garbage like Enterprise. Respect the vision and stay true to it. I will not be spending my money to support the screwing over of Gene's legacy.

I pretty much agree with everything you said fringey but to be fair to Enterprise I suggest you watch season 4 if you haven't already. I think those episodes are a massive improvement, mostly because of executive producer/writer Manny Coto who is a fan of the original series. Coto single-handedly fixes Berman's mistakes, getting rid of the Temporal War storyline, bringing back the "Mirror Mirror" universe and seeing the aliens from the original series again. This is the way the perqual should have been from the very beginning. I suggest you skip the series finale of season 4 because Berman and that other guy wrote the script and it's horrible, even the fans and the cast hated it. The point is someone else took over and did a better job of it. I keep thinking what season 5 would have been liked with Manny's supervision.

I haven't seen all of saeson four, but I did see some of it, and Manny was doing a decent job, but not enough to save the show. Too little, too late. And, even then, Manny didn't get it all right. For instance, in the Mirror universe episode, there is a MAJOR flaw. Basically, being that, if the Empire had a Consitution class ship that was 100 years more advanced than our universe, wny would the Empire still be at the exact same level of technology in the TOS "Mirror, Mirror" episode?

In times of war, HUGE jumps in technology happen. In an Empire dedicated to war, does anyone really believe they would just sit on the same technology for one hundred years without making any advances? That is the problem with retconning. Manny got a lot right, I don't deny that. But, by that time, Berman had already alienated the fans too far to bring the ratings up enough to save the show. It would probably have taken one or two more seasons of the same quality, at least, to bring back the fans. Most of us were beyond caring by that point.

The Constitution ship situation could have gone either way, it either gets destroyed by the emperor or is mass produced by the Empire after years of studying the technology. We will never know since I'm sure Manny would have wrote a sequel to the "mirror" episode in season 5, hopefully by then word-of-mouth would have gotten around. Doesn't matter anyway because UPN was itching to cancel Enterprise (since season 3) even if the ratings would have improved.

I was actually surprised that UPN gave Enterprise a fourth season as the ratings were so bad. The Sci Fi Friday ratings on Sci Fi Chanel were better and that is horrible! Basically, the show had a premiere epsidoe with 13 million viewers and quickly whittled that down to less than two million on average by the 3rd season. The Paramount people need to realize they need to respect the history of the franchise or alienate the fans forever.

We've had six and a half Classic Trek films, and three and a half Next-Gen films; don't the Enterprise fans deserve at least one movie?
A chance to set things right---though the suits at UPN did their best to drown their ugly baby, they forgot one thing; this is science fiction. Lay the foundation well, and you can do anything.
The final episode was the studio's last attempt to piss in the punchbowl, but a well-written script could still pull it out.
Daniels turns up, and Archer agrees to help when he hears the words, "Trip wasn't meant to die."

I have lived long enough to see many things in my youth, turned into drivel for the entertainment of low-grade morons; I will not pay to see it done to Star Trek.

Ok first off it's J.J. Adrims that is directing trek 11 and I don't know if anyone wants to remember that he directed M:I:III which sucked so much it pissed most of the old M:I fans off as well as most of the Cruse fans as well so since CBS-Paramount has given the green light on 11 with a moron at the helm I think it would be best if paramount let Robot Chicken do the film at least it would be better.

When I read the story about Trek-11 on Yahoo! Movies, I realized the inbred retards at Paramount are going to do to Star Trek what they did to my beloved Battlestar Galactica.

Anyone who wants it can have my spot at the hog trough, I won't be coming.
