Anyone? I know that's the main reason I came here. But it seems the vast majority of people do little besides talk sci-fi, and there's a thousand other places to do that. I mean, yes, I love sci-fi and I love it enough to look for someone else who's into it as well, but isn't anyone here actually looking for a relationship? Ladies? Gentlemen?

Interesting question and comments. We're seeing some of the 100+ sites in the network to have more of a community type feel, and others having more of a dating type feel.

The initial concept in how the network was set up was to make it easier to break the ice with other people, based on some shared interest or similarity.

Some people are just looking for a fun place to meet new people and make new friends, while others are pursuing more romantic interests. Very Happy

As the network grows, the likelihood of meeting someone who 'flips your switch' increases though, so we're not sure how things will eventually look in any of the sites.

It's easier for sites like Trek Passions to take on more of a community feel for now, because the number of members is still somewhat small.

Once the numbers are much larger though, things may change. While there will always be a strong sci-fi community feel to the site, we're pretty sure that romantic connections will flow from the interactions between members once the site is humming with activity.

There are large numbers of email messages and smooches sent and recieved on a daily basis though...so some people seem to be exploring the romantic side of the site already. Wink

Thanks,
8)

yes..but I don't know how likely the romantic part is or will ever be. I mean for that matter, the romantic part would have to be with someone in my hometown..or relatively close.

I'm sure that everyone on the site is looking for a connection of some kind, be it romantic or not. I guess that it just depends what stage in life you are at.

As for me, I guess so. I'm not what people would call a "social butterfly" and have a hard time opening up to people that I don't know. The site makes me feel comfortable enough to talk with people I don't know that well. And I'm at the stage in life where I want to start having relationships that might be lasting ones.

Look, I didn't hear any screaming or squishing sounds.

I think the majority of people here are looking for someone special. I know I am. As you say, Nighthawk, there are plenty of places where folks could go if they just wanted to talk about sci fi. So, I think the majority of people here wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the desire for something more.

Plus, as I have said a few times before, the forums are a great way to get an insight into what someone else is like. You get an idea of the things they like and dislike and even a glimpse of their personality. I, personally, am far more likely to contact someone who I see posting that interests me than someone who isn't. Just looking at a profile doesn't give you much to go on.

Personally, I hope the community feel mentioned by Feedback is always here. Even were I to find that special someone, I would probably stay just for the opportunity to meet new folks with similar interests. But, I am definitely hoping for something more.

Well I thought I had a relationship started from this site but the person turned out not to be a person for me. I hope to meet other people here and elsewhere but I really don't know if I will find one here that is the right one for me. But then you never know when cupid will shoot the arrow. lol

I am. But this site seems not to have enough ladies here that live even remotely close to me. Maybe that'll change over time. This is, after all, a pretty new site and it is different than most other sites as it is more for a special group of people.

By the way, if there are any ladies in the area I live in and find me interesting enough get to know, please send me a message. :)

I think Trek Passions needs to advertise more to the sci-fi community, I know I'm doing my part to get this website noticed, but it seems not to be enough. I agree with Scryer41 too much distance and not enough ladies.

There are some really interesting women here, though. Quality versus quantity, Very Happy I do wish some of them were closer though.

I know that over the past seven years of being alone and in the two years sine I lost my last parent that I've been looking for someone and I think I found her here but I know that I need to take it slow as to not frighten her off wich is the last thing that I want to do. and for me distance is only a small matter. Very Happy

Personally, I usually end up dating friends. The kind of standard progression with me is friendship to get closer and closer and develop into attraction. Having these boards to discuss things outside of a romantic environment seems like a good way to develop relationships, whether they develop into romance or not. The difference between this and other scifi sites is that you know you're not crossing any lines if you ask someone out. They may not say yes, but they certainly won't be offended or anything. =)

I've posted on a lot of sites and I'm trying out yahoo personals besides this one. But is seems that either no one is interested or they ignore me all togather. It dosn't help that I have dyslexia and I'm pagan. I meet a lot of closet christians. A alos meet a lot of people that don't knwo what they want or who they are or even how t ocare for someone else. There also seems to be a lot of gold diggers all over the place looking for Mr. $$ bags. Living in the Phoenix area you would think someone would have a good chance to find someone but it's not true, or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places or just not looking hard enough. I also run into those people that don't like sci-fi and I really need someone that is into it.

That is definitely the way it usually works for me, too, svecica. Friendship has to be ther first for me to consider a relationship.

And, Andrew, we have ALL been there. Including the feeling frustrated and unwanted. Don't get disheartened at all. I truly belive there is someone out there for everyone, but you may have to carve off a lot of dross to get to the gold.

I think having the options of the sci-fi forum and whatnot really opens up people so they aren't just constantly trying to get a date and to impress the ladies. It helps show more of who you really are.

Special people are overrated. I'd rather have someone unspecial any day of the week.

I also find that age plays a part in finding someone here. I'm near my 48th b-day and it is pretty much a site for people under the age of 40. That's not saying there aren't a lot of over age 40 people here. But simple put, there are not enough ladies interested in men my age. And if there are, they live to far away. I really like this site though and I'm pleased to see more people starting to chat it up in the threads. In time, I believe it will be thriving and full of match making affairs.
