Happy Fortieth Anniversary Star Trek!

No one else mentioned that, earlier tonight, was the 40th, so I thought I would. Of course, since I was four years old when it originally aired, I am feeling very old tonight. I wonder if they could od an enhanced version of me like they are doing for TOS???

I was 7 when it started. Who would have thought such an insignificant series as Star Trek would eventually come to mean so much to so many. Who would have believed that it would actually shape lives of those would grow up and becomes doctors, scientists, astronauts, and more! Gene never thought it would be as big as it has become, but I'll bet that he's looking down and smiling, knowing that his dream of a show about space exploration is doing some good in the world.

Hear, hear, scryer. Star Trek is what got me into sci fi in the first place. I was only four when TOS aired, but I was attracted to the cool space ships, ray guns, and funny looking aliens. It was not till I got a little older than I really understood Trek, but it started me on the path anyway, the same way the original Batman TV series got me into comics, Karloff's Frankenstein and Dark Shadows got me into horror, and King Kong and the Wizard of Oz into fantasy. I will always be a Trekkie, even if there are other shows that I think are better now. It is my first love and you never forget that first love.

That remastered photo is gorgeous, isn't it? And it is GRAY, the way it is supposed to look! I didn't know the Enterprise was gray until I saw it in the Smithsonian when I was about 19 years old. For 15 years, I thought the sucker was white!

Eeeeeeeeeep, bit late but congraz on 40 for ST.

I know that nobody wants to hear this but I'll tell it anyway. Trek got me into PC's. First [commercial] Star Trek game ever released for the PC, I bought the machine in order to play the game and had to learn my way round the machine first. Had no sound for the 1st 3 months!

Well things progress and I now work for a Domain Registry, have a 24/7 net conn and a field of friends in which I can discuss whether Janeway was a good captain or if she was PMT'd up to the eyeballs. Gene Roddenberry has a lot to answer for when I reach the pearly gates..

Trek is the first program/movie I can remember from my childhood where a computer wasn't a huge bank of machines standing against a wall. It is also the first program I remember that used cell phones. I bought my first flip phone last year. The first thing I did was track down a ringtone that sounded like the chirp of the communicators!!!

ZOMG! I am soooooooooooo addicted to flip top phones! I literally can't purchase a phone unless it has the 'flip' action. I use to have the ST noises for my windows but I moved machines and it got far too annoying to reset them all up again.

I do have GIR splating onto my work machine desktop however from Invader Zim.

And I have the communicator, boxed, from TOS. If I could have that on my phone..

Man, and I thought I was the only one who did that. LOL When I know who's calling, I'll usually answer with "Kirk here!" There's an old bit by Kevin Polleck that I have for my phone's answering service. It goes:

"Captain's log. Stardate 24..6..7.8. There's no one here. Spock, Bones, Scotty, they're all gone. I've been ... left alone. There is... however, an annoying beep which is persuing me. I don't know... when it will come next. Wait for... the beep."

Of couse, it's sounds like Shatner talking.

I still ahve that on a comedy tape of all Star Trek comedy. I even used that on my actual answering machine for a while. When I had the Trek tones on my old phone last year, I had the Red Alert sound for when i got messages, too. I recently upgraded phones and this one doesn't look like a communicator much, so I didn't get the Trek ringtones for it. Now I have "Shout It Out Loud" by KISS.
