Sci-Fi Channel announced the development of "Caprica", a spinoff prequal of its hit Battlestar Galactica.

Saw it. I'm intrigued. If they can do it and maintain the quality of both shows, or at least BSG, I'm for it.
Plus, it would piss the TOS die hards off even more.
Bonus.

Thanks for the laugh
In general I would like to see them run a few good years of BSG... then run another series. I like the Star Trek runs, where I was able to enjoy it for a couple of decades in different eras and presentations. This is a money grab, that from what I've seen is the standard for producing "reality tv".

It might be a money grab, but it's perked my interest. It'll be cool to see how the Cylons were created, why they turned evil and how they distroyed the 12 planets. Also it will be interesting to see the development of the Adama family. We can see how everything that was happening on Caprica and what was going on with his family affected Adama as he grew up and why he decided to join Galatica. |

Well it sounds interesting but then again there's that word "Prequel", I really hope they can pull this off. Since this takes place on Caprica I guess we won't see a lot of scenes that are in Space or Viper dog flights. Hopefully they'll show the old Cylon robots from the original series. |

True, the word 'prequal' can ruin it for many (I give you 'Enterprise' and 'Episode 1 as an example). But for some it's a thrill ride since we already know what's gonna happen and can see what happened to lead to it. As for the space fights, they may not show any, but since it's BSG they would have to show something, maybe training sequences. And for the Cylons, I think that they would go back to the old design because then they would be "new" and not as "advanced" as the ones in the current BSG. |

I think a prequel to the original series might be even more fascinating.
I'd love to learn more about the repitilian race of the Cylon Alliance
who created the original cylon machines before being slaughered
by their creations, and more detail on the conflict between
the cylons and the Hasaris that led to intervention by the Twelve
Colonies and the Thousan Yahren War.
Not to mention the different models of cylons and the whole one brain
versus two brain versus three brain issues.
Just like the new series has potential conflict between the various
human models, or between human models and more robotic models,
the "caste system" of the original series cylons was rich in potential strife
and ripe for back-stapping and political intrigue.
Does no one else miss Lucifer and the Imperious Leader? |

Oh dear. I don't know, to be honest - it could be really cool, and I do love the new BSG...hmm. But if they screw it up, then it'll reflect on the new BSG, and trying to keep the timeline straight might be tricky - thinking Enterprise and Episode 1 here. Um.
I'm tentatively Yay about this.
As to the old BSG - no, I don't miss it, but it's nice that you've got such a soft spot for it. That's cool. I enjoyed it, but I didn't find it as engaging as the new show. Or maybe it's just fuzzier in my memory. Hmm.
(...I could never quite overlook the fact that they called him the Imperious Leader, because even then I knew that Imperious didn't mean what they seemed to think it meant, and that was a bit distracting.) |

lol great movie refrence. that's one of my all time fav. movies.
I guess that we'll just have to wait until the show starts to see how it goes. Who knows, it could be another 'Enterprise' and 'Episode I' with really annoying characters and completly screwing up the BSG timeline or it could be an instant hit like the new BSG and be on for a while. Time will tell. |

One of my favs, too. Tied with Spinal Tap as my fav Rob Reiner flicks.
As for prequels, they CAN be done right. Heck, Lucas finally got it right with Ep 3. And Enterprise got it together in Season three and especially season four.
Let's hope they don't need a warmup, tho, just hit the ground running. |

Errr...what do you think imperious means, and what do
you think they thought it meant?
Because what I think it means (based on colloquial usage and
dictionary definitions such as "arrogantly domineering" "overbearing"
etc.) is pretty dead-on, if a bit more tongue-and-cheek on the part
of the creators.
True, there are more descriptively accurate names for characters,
such as "the evil midnight bomber what bombs at midnight"
(supervillain from The Tick), but "Imperious Leader" was incredibly
well suited.
I could be very wrong of course. I keep telling myself "Firefly" is
just on hiatus, for example.
Hey, how about a prequel to begin all prequels, as in back before
earth became just a legend to the colonies? |

All fans wish that series never existed, never mention "that show" around them, you'll get dirty looks. |
