So, for those of us stateside who know the game, but are
completely ignorant of the teams' histories and rivalries,
how about a "who's who" of the teams -- what teams are
arch rivals of other teams, any interesting anecdotes, any
"cursed teams," that sort of thing.
(for example, in baseball, there were two teams considered to
be "cursed" -- the Red Sox and the Cubs, and they almost
met in the world series one year; it was determined that if this
happened, the world might have to end; of course, the Red Sox
successfully reversed their curse, so now it's just the Cubs....)

Hi Maise my commiserations lol
Yeah Ashley Cole is a bit of a loss alright and so was Patrick Viera last season ....and now Reyes has gone to Real Madrid also......yes things are not the best at Arsenal but at least you got Gallas from Chelsea. Well I think thats a good thing hee hee As for the World Cup I think McClaren may be the best thing for England ....it was just unfortunate that you had
Errickson there as Manager ....I also thought Beckham should have been dropped ages back and Gerard in his proper position that he usually plays for Liverpool. But truthfully I wonder myself whether England will ever win ......they always seem to choke in the later stages!!
Okay Iswallowedabug well you know I support Manchester United (aka The Red Devils) It is one of the biggest clubs if not THE biggest in the World. One of the biggest things that happened in World Football was the Munich Disaster in 1958 where the mass amount of the United team (nicknamed the Busby Babes) were killed! One of the great Managers of football ever Matt Busby survived and rebuilt a new team up again ....... this tragedy helped build fondness and notoriety with the mass public and football fans alike for Manchester United. We now have Alex Ferguson as Manager ..... he's the most successful manager ever. He has won more trophies than any other manager in the history of English football (with United) and been in charge of Manchester United for more than 1,000 matches.... He has a fiery temper and has reportedly kicked a football boot at David Beckham's head (he had the cut) when they lost. My favourite player was Roy Keane (he's Irish...and I'm not at all biased lol) but he was United Captain for over ten years ...other players including those of his own team are literally afraid of him .....he's a tough ex boxer, very intelligent and has an extremely bad temper ....full of passion though!! He has to win at any cost ....he was known as the embodiment of the Manager on the pitch....(Ferguson's Midfield General)
I first started supporting United in the 70's as a little kid..... at that time and through to the 80's Liverpool (The Red Army) would have been the big rival to United and even though they won the Champion's League (The Top European Tournament) last Season they are far from the force they once were however they are getting there now!! Then in the late 90's till the last two years really our main rival has been Arsenal (The Gunners) Other teams have come up and down through the years but Arsenal particularly when Arsene Wenger took over as Manager have been very good bringing in a new type of game (though in fairness Maise they are all French lol) and it helped to have one of the greatest strikers in the World Thierry Henry I haven't much time for Arsenal but you just can't deny the talent of the man ....he's a great!!
Of course you get Derby's aswell which is basically teams from the same area like Manchester United and Manchester City or Liverpooll and Everton.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

Beware the beast Man for he is the Devil's pawn.
Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, or ----, or greed.
Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land.
Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert out of his home and yours.
Shun him. Drive him back into his jungle lair.
For he is the harbinger of death.
