Is anyone in here also interested in fantasy genre?

I am heavy in fantasy maybe even more than sci-fi, but they keep combining us into one group at the bookstores.

Is anyone else into fantasy as well as the science fiction?

Vixi, my tastes for fantasy usually are less than for Horror and Sci-fi. But I have read some fantasy books that I'm sure you've heard of. The Hobbit, Lord Of The Rings, Simalrialian (did I spell that right?), John Carter On Mars series, At The Earth's Core and all it's companion books, and Conan.

For the most part though, I usually RPG fantasy.

Me too. I play MMORPGs a lot. However since I joined Trek Passions I been on my games far less lol. You are maybe talking about pen and paper RPGs?

Yeap... I never really could get into on-line games. I like playing face to face with people. I GM my own worlds. I use the GURPS system and I've got six worlds I run.

There's just something more personal about playing around a table than in front of a screen with a bunch of false faces.

I sure am. I have been slowly working my way through Tad Williams, "Memory, Sorrow, & Thorn" series. Just picked up the third book, "Green Angel Tower Book 1" yesterday. But, it will take me a while to get to it, as I just started "A Game of Thrones" by George R.R. Martin at home, and am working on the Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child book, "Cabinet of Curiousities" while at work. Kind of a mix of fantasy, horror, and crime procedural from the guys who wrote "The Relic". More of a horror slant than anything. Not to mention I am reading the "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" FOR work. Poor Tad will have to wait a few days.

I pretty much have gotten away from RPGs, but I would be happy to get back into either pen and paper or LARP. I just am not attracted to the online stuff for some reason. Maybe I am just cheap?

Fringey: I have read all that you are currently reading and it is well worth it. A new author I picked up is Jennifer Fallon. I just finished the first book in her seconed series "Wolfblade". That is the title of the series and the book.

I'm always looking for new authors so suggested reading is always welcome

While not "fantasy", I highly suggest Harry Turtledove's aleternative history novels. Especially the series he is currently working on, which begins with "How Few Remain" and continues in the "The Great War". It is basically a world where the Confederacy won the Civil War and the U.S.A. and C.S.A. are two countries. He started it just a few years after the War Between the States and has progressed to World War II now. Fascinating stuff. Rich in characters and storylines.

I also suggest Bernard Cornwell, who writes historical fiction. He is most famous for the Sharpe's series but he has other great books. He has a series about King Arthur that is excellent. I believe the first book is "The Winter King" in the Warlord Chronicles. Not fantasy, but a very plausible retelling of the Arthurian legend. He also did a standalone novel called "Stonehenge" in which he imagines how Stonehenge might have come to be built. Not mention the Grailquest books about an archer during the 100 Years War searching for, not surprisingly, the Holy Grail Great stuff.

I tried reading The Anubis Gate by David Drake. I dunno. I had a problem with it. Alternative history is a bit difficult for me as I am a bit (very little bit) of a history buff. Add elements like in Urban Fantasies and I'm ok.

Thanks for the suggestions though I will give them a try. I always give a book 100 pages to convice me to read it *lol* sometimes I read it anyway

Hey, shadownymph, Turtledove ain't for everyone, but as history buff, you might enjoy him. He is a historian himself, so his stuff is very plausible.
