I think the Galaxy Class ships could have been better looking if they had not stunted the struts for the Nacelles. I mean... they did the same thing for Voyager and that thing was ugly too. Star Fleet vessels that have long struts are better looking. The only exception is the ships that look like Relient. If you want the saucer section to be be the main structure, tuck the Nacelles in close.

well i Think we covered the Enterprises What about the support ships?
I was not impressed with shuttle from #5 it was supposed to have retractable wing for atmospharic manuvers but i don't remeber them.
for me, the best support ship is a tie between the runabout and the Delta Flyer
Will someone shut that man up

Some of the shuttles used in Insurrection were great. The Captain's Yeaht was well done. But most of the Next Gen shuttles of the series all reminded me of fancy boxes. Stubby and unattractive. I still have a fondness in my heart for the shuttle used in Classic Trek. I always wanted one in my backyard so I could pretend I was flying around in it.

I was impressed with the Delta Flyer; the return to what we call standard flight controls was an interesting concept. Tom Paris was, deep down, and old fashioned "stick and rudder" sort of pilot.
As for Voyager...I wasn't the first person to note the thing looks like "a single girl's best friend", but at least it's not Galaxy-class.
Me?

Personally I like the Ambassador class. I'm not sure if it's because Enterprise C is a ship doomed to fight a heroic but fatal battle, or if it's just because we don't know much about the class. But I certainly do find the aesthetics of the class pleasing. I like the variant even better, with the extra section hanging from the fantail under the aft shuttlebey... The name of that ship escapes me at the moment.

The Ambassador-class shows the transition from Excelsior to Galaxy---or if you prefer, where they started to go wrong---but many of us just like the sleeker, more proportionate lines of the Enterprise-C.
Rumor has it the Ambassador-class was to be "the" Enterprise in Next-Gen, but was rejected in favor of the Galaxy-class; anyone else know more about this?

Actually the Ambassador was never really "designed" in the beginning. When the time came to fit Enterprise-C into the show the producers chose to base it on a concept painting that had been made as a design direction for D and can be found, I believe, in the background of one of the sets. Or maybe on some producer's office wall. Either way it isn't exactly the C they finally ended up with; the nacelles are a little different and the pylons are straight and swept back a la Enterprise-A but overall it's pretty similar.

Still sounds better than what they wound up with; what kind of drugs was the design team on when they came up with the saucer-heavy D, the "warp driven waffle iron of death" or "the single girl's best friend"---also known as Galaxy class, the Defiant and Voyager?
Don't tell me they weren't strung out on something when they came up with such goofy designs!

My first love will always be the original Constitution class Enterprise. But, I gotta say that, stylisitcally, the Sovereign is my favorite. It is just so COOL!!
I never really liked the Excelsior class ships. The were just too bulky looking for me. The Galaxy class was okay, but, again, too bulky. The Sovereign and Voyager class ships are my favorites from all the series. Remind me of sharks cruising through the ocean.
BTW, the NX-01 doesn't remind you of a Steamrunner. The NX01 is basically a mild redesign of the Akira class ship, with the engine nacelles facing upward instead of downward and the nacelles are round. Other than some other small design changes, it is very essentially the same ship. Not a complete rip-off, but not a distinctively new design either. Check it out at:

Thanks for clearing that up, Fringey. I knew it was one of them, but for some reason I always get the two confused---Akira class? I'll try to remember or better still, get myself a diagram. Either way, I liked the looks of the NX-01. Remember when she was flying "cheek to cheek" with Columbia so they could send Trip across on a wire? I've had kit bashing ideas ever since.
Of the streamlined, "Euro-styled" ships, I prefer Voyager but she doesn't hold a candle to the Enterprise-E.
The Enterprise-A was a redesign of the basic Constitution-class from the Classic Trek series; a beauty, given a glamorous makeover.

Me and some friends of mine had quite a bit of discussion/bashing about the NX-01 when they first showed it. If you are gonna do something retro, it needed to look LESS cool. It looked way more sophisticated than the Constitution class from TOS. That link had some much better designs that were submitted that would have made the NX-01 look less modern but still cool. I wish they ahd gone with one of them. Of course, I REALLY wish they hadn't done Enterprise. At least with Rick &*^&^%ing Berman in charge.

Ah yes, Rick Berman, aka Star Trek Satan. What really upset me about NX-01 is that with that design, they essentially threw out years of established canon Federation history. If they were using saucer-hulled starships that early, then where in the lineage does the Daedalus class fit? Which ship classes fought in the Romulan war? How did they get torpedoes so soon, when in TOS they didn't have them yet for some time? And how do they develop a navigational deflector that works fine, but no shields? Same tech, different application, right? Enterprise was just a freakin' mess.

I would not argue ANY of those questions or statements.

Makes me wonder if my accidental omission of the NX-01 from the poll was such an accident. Truly, Enterprise bollixed Federation and Starfleet history---and I have come to believe NX-01 is a redress of the Akira-class, if at least by unconscious accident.
Of all the designs they could have done, why rip something they already did---hell why wasn't the first Enterprise a Daedalus class or something like it?
Well, at least they didn't just stick warp nacelles on the ship from 2001: a Space Oddessy

I was just checking out various ship designs, and have a question for the rest of the group.
The Olympic-class---aka the Pasteur from TNG finale "All Good Things..."---bears a striking similarity to the Daedalus-class, just all sleeked out and shined up.
What do you guys think---am I seeing things again?"
(whoa, no more tranya for me, I'm driving...)
