I have thought about this myself a good while too .... I would love to see Avon (the same actor returning) back............. instead of being killed by the Federation Troops he is imprisioned, hearing there that who he thought was Blake and had killed was really a Clone and that the real Blake is still in hiding (The Clone bit is not really a stretch because if you all remember in an earlier episode of B7 Blake is cloned) maybe then Avon somehow escapes after so many years meanwhile collecting others around him building up a new seven, and acquiring a ship I would have him shortly after searching first for Orac who he may think will provide vital information of the location of Blake. I think I would stay clear from introducing Blake back into it but have it more about the search of the seven for Blake believing he can reunite the resistance from an even worse Federation that has developed. You could have Servalan return too but I personally would use a different actress perhaps have it that she was frozen not aging ....I say this because Servalan is mean't to be a sexy villainess and I think the old actress has sort of passed it a bit now...no offense Servalan fans! though in saying that maybe she could have a daughter now just like her and have both ..mmmm I would be open to that idea either lol. I however don't think you could really bring back Villa as much as I would love to bring back the old actor but I really think you could create a Villa type in the new people introduced that the absent slot can be easily filled there. Of course you have to create another character that perhaps already was leading some and have it that it is his ship that they are all occupying ....that way he is automatically going to be competitive with Avon (Avon really is better when he is fighting to get control rather then being in full control at the beginning) |

But Vila plans to live forever – or die trying!
Seriously, though, the Avon/Vila banter was priceless.
Some of my favorites:
"Blake would've been proud of you, you know." - Vila
"I know, but then he never was very bright." – Avon
"I am entitled to my own opinion." - Vila
"Yes, but it's your constant assumption that everyone else is also that's so annoying." - Avon
"See, the old magic's still there." - Vila
"The old ego too." - Avon
“I've got this shocking pain right behind the eyes." - Vila
"Have you considered amputation?" – Avon
"What did I do to deserve this?" - Vila
"How long a list would you like?" – Avon
Sure, they could put another character in that role, but Vila
was so well done. As plot copouts go, the idea that he
would do something cowardly to save himself while the others
die is keeping in character at least.
I like the idea of invoking the Clonemaster.
How about multiple Avon clones? He could be fighting
himself for control and stabbing himself in the back at
every turn. |

I think I have just made the biggest mistake of my life." .
. . Vila
"It is unlikely. I would predict there are far greater
mistakes waiting to be made by someone with your obvious
talent for it." . . .Orac
lol Okay you have convinced me Iswallowedabug we should keep Villa ...if only we were writing it
I take it the Avon clone comment was a joke lol but it mightn't be a bad idea to have a couple of Servalan's or Blake Clones running around. I'd love to see a big change in Orac's appearance ..... I reckon he should be significantly smaller!! What way would you like to have Orac look?? |

ORAC always seemed to me to not only be arrogant, but to also
have an extreme sense of entitlement along with it.
I get the feeling that he shouldn't be too small, because he needs to
feel that he is being conveyed from place to place by the underlings
(kind of like how slaves used to carry emperor's around on some
sort of canopy). He is not a palm pilot for use by others, he wants ot
be the one in charge who has servants and attendants.
ORAC is not one to be slipped into a pocket. Perhaps the computer
part of ORAC could be very small, but the protective case/transport
case built in with it would be large and bulky to give him an
air of pompous importance.
Multiple Avon clones is no joke; it is the stuff dreams are made of....
It occurs to me that if heaven exists, one's nature need not be good to gain entrance; one just must be endearing enough that it wouldn't
be heaven for those who DO get in without him/her there. Dayne once
remarked of Avon that "underneath that cold, callous exterior beats a
heart of pure stone." Yet, I put to you that Avon most assuredly
will get to heaven, otherwise it's no heaven at all! |

Why do I get the feeling iswallowedabug that you really like Avon ...nice words there but I do have a slight discrepancy in that theory ...for if that were true of everyone even Adolf Hitler would be in Heaven as he may have been endearing to those he was kind to .........perhaps it wouldn't be heaven if Adolf's Mum and Dad didn't have their son with them........ I'm sorry I'm ruining this moment for you aren't I . I really like Avon myself he was easily the best character.
The more I think about it the more I think your right too about Orac ....the problem lies though in making him look cool that will appeal to a younger generation after all that is where the success or failure of a show like this lies.
Which is why I was thinking of something more modern looking more sleek but your correct it can't be small!! |

Ruining this moment? Ha! Older, darker powers than you have been trying to burst my bubble for decades with no success. My bubble is reinforced and shatterproof. I see your "Hitler" and raise you "Alex, Pete, Georgie, and Dim" to unleash their own brand of spectacular Ultraviolence on Hitler (and anyone else can take a crack at him too) for the delight and cathartic healing of all in heaven.
Or we could invoke a branching, multi-dimensonal vision of heaven ("You could, uh, could have like a world without shrimp. Or with, you know, nothing but shrimp."- Anya, "Superstar" episode of Buffy)
As for ORAC, I’m fairly low-maintenance. The tried and true cliche SciFi image of a disco ball or icosahedron inside a three dimensional version of a tesseract would even work. Just as long as he doesn’t end up looking like an MP3 player. |

Being honest I don't really want to burst your bubble iswallowedabug as I can understand the appeal in Avon myself (though being a guy its a more of a he's a cool guy kind of way lol) I also have a sister who loves him too so I know he definitely appeals to the female community
What a strange heaven you describe where we take delight out of watching people suffering from the hands of Alex and his fellow droogs would he then after unleashing some ultraviolence then sit back and listen to some of the old Beethoven
[Listening to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony]
Alex: Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!
I love a Clockwork Orange ...... a great film!!
I agree about Orac too I just think they need to stretch the budget a bit more than a couple of Christmas fairy lights in a see-through box |

Where's your dedication, lucifer666? Avon is transcendant! If I
were a guy, I would switch teams for him. There is no shame in
admitting you want him...
Is my description of a possible heaven really any stranger
than some of the boring thumb-twiddling versions out there, or the
very battle prone Valhalla and StoVoKor?
Do I detect the beginnings of a soundtrack for our Blake's 7
continuation project? I can just see Avon reclining in the captain's
chair of some ship he's stolen with a smirk on his face as we hear a
little of the Ludwig Van....
"There was me, that is Avon, and my three droogs, that is Blake,
ORAC, and Vila (Vila being really Dim), and we sat in the Liberator
trying to make up our rassoodocks how to attack the Federation...."
I'd also like to suggest a "Celebrity Death Match" type fight match up
Servalan and Farscape's Grayza. I think that's another pairing that
could be quite amusing.
Come to think of it, the actor who portayed Stark would be wonderful
in a Vila type role should be not be able to work out a plot
in which Vila survives. |

Okay I admit it iswalledabug your right I want him I love that old 70's hairdo that black leather gear that hard edge .....ohhhhhh it just sends shivers down my spine when I hear him speak ................. AS IF ........YEAH .......RIGHT!!....... Avon may transcend alot of things but he does not and I repeat DOES NOT transcend my masculinity or my hetrosexuality thank you very much
I like him ...he's a good character he's the best character on B7 but thats where the adoration ends for me my friend
Well its a unique way of looking at heaven I'll give you that however whether it was a cloud filled paradise covered with angels playing harps or Klingons beating each other up to get to be the honoured dead it would make very little difference to me as I don't believe in any Heaven .............or a God for that matter!!
I like your ideas for our Blakes 7 project too it could go something like this
Avon sings "I'm singing in the rain..."
And then kicks Travis accenting the lyrics.
"Just singing in the rain..."
He clubsTravis with Orac, in the time to the music.
"What a glorious feeling, I'm happy again."
He pushes a transporter wrisrband into Servalan's mouth and binds it with sellotape.
"I'm laughing at clouds so dark up above.
The sun's in my heart and I'm ready for love.
Let the stormy clouds chase..."
He kicks Travis again.
I think you get the picture he beats up Travis and cuts the clothes of Servalan before having his way with her.
Mmmm Celebrity Death Match ...very intersesting idea ...only one problem I don't watch Farscape sorry!! I do suggest Avon verses Star Trek's Spock ...now there's a fight for you Villa verses Scotty and Jenna or Dayna could take Sulu any day lol |

re: Heaven. Well, lucifer666, there’s Heaven, for theological
debate and matters concerning “faith,†and there’s heaven, for philosophical
conjecture, amusing speculation, etc. I’m not sure about the former, but
fully believe in the latter. Plus, it’s fun to say StoVoKor.
I think you’ve gone a little overboard with Avon. Sure, he’s cold and
calculating, but he’s not into violence for violence sake; certainly not
sexual violence.
Violence is a tool he can use to get what he wants. He’s ruthless, but that also
means ruthless efficiency (ah, how the Spanish Inquisiiton could have used him).
Adolescently over-indulgent acts of base and violent urges would not be his style.
It’s too impractical.
Travis : Be polite and I may let you live.
Avon : Be informative and I may let you die. You'll want that after
I've shot off an arm and a leg or two.
Travis : I thought you were supposed to be the one with brains.
Avon : Brains but no heart. Now talk or scream....
Sure, he’d torture to get what he needs, he might even enjoy
torturing Travis or Servalan (or Blake for that matter), but he’s
not going to go out of his way to do it.
Of course, Malcolm McDowell would make a lovely choice to
play Avon’s father....
And you really should watch Farscape; if you don’t catch up,
you’ll fall behind the rest of the class. |

Personally, I think it would be really difficult (nigh impossible) for
a reimagined Blake's 7 to recapture the fun and charm of the
original. I think recasting and reinventing the show would lose
so much of what makes the show spectacular.
As a case in point: the new BSG.
I know almost everyone loves the new show and can't imagine
why anyone wouldn't, but I can't find any of the fun and charm of
the original series in the new "darker, grittier" version. And believe
me, I've tried. And tried. And tried. That doesn't mean that
the new version doesn't have merits, but in my mind it has lost
something essential, something compelling, what made it
BSG in the first place, and what I watched the original show for.
Even if a reimagined Blake's 7 had innovative plots with layered
complexities, state-of-the-art special effects, and a cast full of
eye candy, if it lost the core of what made it great, that would be
tragic.
I don't care if the old gang reappears with wrinkles, beer guts,
and must use canes or walkers to get around; dust 'em off and
bring 'em back, and preserve the charm, fun, and core of
the show! |

Now now Jamie you will get iswallowedabug all upset ....Blakes 7 wouldn't be Blakes 7 to her if Paul Darrow wasn't in it ....though I do like the idea of a post watershed sexed up Liberator
lol I have to admit I love your intellectual responses which are shadowed by an irrational impulse to bring in something Trekkie like StoVokor. I personally prefer The Divine Treasury myself or maybe the Celestial Temple ....well no I'm only kidding about the last one there I hated those Bajorans!! It would be more like Hell than Heaven
"It's a calculated risk, Avon." - Blake
"Calculated on what? Your fingers?" - Avon
Okay I might have gone slightly overboard with the accumulation ot B7 and A Clockwork Orange but you did start it And its only now because it may show your man Avon in a more sisnister light that you now have a problem with it......I say B7 could do worse than having some of the old in-out-in-out ........ I say we head to the Korova Milkbar and have some spiked, hallucinogenic drink concoctions like milk-plus and contemplate the pros and cons
"This is stupid." - Vila
"When did that ever stop us?" - Avon
One of my favourite quotes of Avon's is this.......
"His name is synonymous with rebels, and very popular with rabble. They will follow him, and he will fight, to the last drop of their blood. A little idealism is a wonderful thing. All it takes is someone with common sense to put it to proper use." - Avon
I tried to get into Farscape when it first started but I just wasn't really interested sorry I guess the class will have to go on without me
"They're unfriendly. Which is fortunate really; they'd be difficult to love." - Avon
Do you notice that you can find a Blakes 7 quote to suit every point you make |

Wouldn't that make you feel at home, Lucifer666?
lucifer666 wrote: And its only now because it may show your man Avon in a more sinister light that you now have a problem with it.....
Okay, I'm probably misquoting because it's been a while, but "If
you want to confront evil you will have to confront it on its own terms,
not in your own mediocre concepts of a Last Judgment....Evil is much
more nasty than you imagine." -- Hagbard Celine, in "The Illuminatus
Trilogy"
I'm not flinching at the thought of evil, or at the thought of Avon being
evil. I had a problem with it because it was out of character. I don't
have a problem portaying Avon as greedy, self-interested, ruthless,
etc. But the form of his type of "sinister" is not the type born
of bored, restless adolescence full looking to burn some malicious
energy. Avon is calculating and practical. |

I haven't seen them.
If we catered to a more general audience, Blake's 7 would come back

Erm........okay you have a point iswallowedabug
Okay Okay I take your point Avon is not sadistic, he doesn't actively derive fun out of being visciously violent but more he will be violent if it is required. Lets get away from this now and back to our project ....
What kind of ship would you have them requiring ....something like Liberator a Super Alien ship or Scorpio an Avon modified Ship or which did you prefer Zen or Slave?
jamie77 wrote: I am sure all of scifi die hards would accept him as a lead but would a more general audience?
I reckon he could be accepted Jamie but they would have to have a young good looking crew to bring in the younger generation to the Blake 7 fold.
