Agree ninja bear. When i first saw Empire Strikes Back I didn't fully understand the birds and the bees. But later, I half expected a ------ assault. We grew up, we expected the story to grow up. But with prequal the story grew younger. To the origional question. Lucas didn't ruin my child hood he just pointed out how nieve I was |

Im a big fan of 4, 5 and 6. Didnt really like the prequals, they just lacked that magic that the first 3 had. Who really wants to spend 2.5 hours watching senators and jedi masters discussing the complex politics of the whole backstory. That and the overuse and reliance on CGI were their downfalls. |

A Star Wars fan too Invisiblesteph ...where have you been hiding all my life lol
I totally agree with everything you said about the prequels by the way!!
Ninjabear and Cooky the problem with the whole love thing and the turning of Anakin to the Dark Side was the lack of a good plotline with it .....Lucas had apparently toyed with the idea that Anakin would eventually come to the wrong conclusion that Padme and Obi Wan were having an affair which he really should have used to be honest as the story employed was so lame and to be honest just plain crap. Now I know alot will want to shout at their screens when they read this with a unanimous "No! What are you on about Lucifer?" but bear with me here .....This was a guy who was practically raised by the jedi from an early age, trained in their ways, loved ObiWan like a father, and was loyal to them. Then because he has a few dreams he starts listening to a guy(The Emperor) who he finds out was lying to him about who he truly was and entertains a story from him then about Sidious's Master Darth Plaguis having the capability of preventing Death and that perhaps they combined could do the same so he decides to save Padme (which like I said he doesn't even know for sure she is in danger in the first place) to then defend him against Mace Windu by cutting his arm off. He doesn't even kill Windu and actually initially regrets what he has done ....hardly Darth Vadar was he?
The truth is he should have been actively turned to the dark side in my opinion in a huge fight much similar to Luke's confrontation in Jedi with Emperor Anakin and another Sith involved with Sidious constantly pushing Anakin further and further about Obi Wan and Padme's affair.
Well thats what I think anyway!! |

Lucifer666 is dead on; the plot, the script---the prequels should've been written by Stephen King, not a sweet old man like George.
I don't believe Mr. Lucas has it in him to do something dark and scary, and that's what I was expecting. |

I would agree with you there Ninjabear if only for Empire Strikes Back......... in that story Lucas showed he wasn't afraid to shock the Audience with a sudden revelation such as Vadar being Luke's father, he also ended it very dark not the usual happy one we are used to seeing. So I was expecting him to be capable of being a bit sisnister....okay not in Stephen King's league granted
There's an interesting thought what if Stephen King wrote Star Wars ....it would be all set in Maine for a start and the Ewoks would have been given fangs |

At this point, I think I should make a clarification:
Whatever I was expecting, however I would have done it, Star Wars is the creation of George Lucas. He has every right to tell his story in his own way, in his own time.
I don't tolerate second guessing because I sweat over every word, every punctuation mark and I'm still never satisfied.
That said...Endor does look a lot like Maine. |

Actualy I think Endor Looks more like Vermont
There are many ways to depart from the path of light. I imagined Aniken, "The One", Saw himself above petty morals such as Family, Right and Wrong. A man, a Jedi, with that power would take what he wants. The turn of the Jedi master in Timothy Zahn's Outbound Flight was Great.
Sorry NinjaBear for the monday Quarter backing.
But i stick with my origional comment , Lucas just showed how nieve i was as a child |

No what I meant was Mr. Lucas might have been better served if he'd subcontracted the script to someone more skilled in creeping people out. James (The Terminator, Aliens) Cameron would also have been a good choice---but Lucas retains overall creative control.
Mr. Lucas has said many times, the good thing about being so well established in his craft is he gets to do his stories without studio interference.
Whatever the result, I tend to agree; if we didn't like the story, we don't have to buy the DVD but it's his to tell as he sees fit. |

Well, if thats the case, What do think of M Night Shamalan as a director for revenge. Do you think he could lead us through the story entertaining us, while making us forget what we all knew was coming : |

I won’t bother repeating what’s been said about all the hokey romance.
Agreed.
I do think the story of how evil acts and how it manages to tempt someone from being “good†to taking the path to the “dark side†is a hard one to tell. It’s one thing to spend hours discussing it, to debate possibilities, but it’s another to actually tell the tale. I really like the way evil was described on an episode of “Joan of Arcadia†once: “Evil is charming and beautiful. It makes you doubt yourself. It asks for one small compromise after another until it whittles you down, and, it functions best when no one believes in it."
I think one thing that George did well in these prequels is sadly overlooked because of all the bad love scenes. He did a really good job of portraying how political and economic tactics can easily be used to astonishingly successful ends when no one believes in the Evil intentions or the Evil mastermind behind it all. This type of “phantom menace†of economics and bureaucracy is terrifying. The way the Emperor rose to power, consolidated power, and dealt with dissent in the three movies was scary and eerily relevant to current events – more relevant than I think most of us would like to admit. (I’m not saying that Bush and Cheney are a pair of Sith, but I probably wouldn’t argue that they weren’t, either....) |

I really should not have read this thread. It gave me a nightmare
last night. I realized that "it" was the middle of "sith" and it
went downhill from there... Darth Pennywise was tempting young
Skywalker through a sewer grate saying "We all float down here" while
various objects levitated in the air. |

Pop another happy pill, bugger, you'll be fine.
Anyone can turn on a dime; fear I'll "go sith" keeps me uptight and focused on the rules, as best I can. |

I'll agree with Counselor Troi on this one; there are no purely negative emotions.
Fear of the consequences will keep you out of trouble. As I once told a friend who called me paranoid, "Of course I'm paranoid. That's why I'm still alive."
Anger at injustice can drive you to fight evil that much harder.
Hate keeps you from abandoning the fight against evil...but Bugger's right. Evil seduces; one cold, bitter little kiss at a time, until you suddenly find yourself slow dancing with the dark mistress. |

Power Curupts absolute power curupts absolutley
"with great power comes great responsablity"
thats why jedi Train
Is it me, or was it the cotrolled love for his family and friends that kept Luke from turning in return.
and isn't the Fear of turning to the darkside, like his father, that keeps Luke on the staight path. or is that only in the books |
