actually, living in the past is cheaper--unless by that you mean the complete original series DVDs cost twice what the crud they spew on us these days...

Let's take a different tack here. I could not find an acceptable venue in the forums, but the examples can serve by comparison.
Based solely on the strength of the fans here in these forums, I pushed Serenity to the top of my Blockbuster Online que. I was neither surprised nor disappointed; Serenity is every bit as poorly written and (except for Gina Torres, Ron Glass and Adam Baldwin) unprofessionally acted as Firefly. However there are important differences that favor one over the other.
NBG is a perversion of someone else's creation, lacking in originality and imagination.
Serenity, like Firefly, is at least an inspired attempt at something creative. I found Serenity to be fast-paced, inventive, straight-line storytelling with exciting action sequences and a well-conveyed sense of purpose; he doesn't do it very well, but at least Wheadon knows what he's doing. Okay, so we got a dose of "River the Riever Slayer" but that's what he does best.
It was a free rental, so I was guaranteed value for my money with Serenity and the free download of NBG; but watching Serenity, I can honestly say I was entertained---71% entertainment by volume, as opposed to no entertainment value from NBG.
Perhaps it would benefit the series if Joss Wheadon took over NBG. He certainly couldn't make it any worse---I damn sure wouldn't let him write the screenplay without me, but I'd let Joss direct movies based on my stories.

A friend of mine, who I consider intelligent, recently told me he likes NBG.
Then he told me he'd never seen the 30-year-old Classic, available now on NBC.com.

Watch it---but I hope it has not been edited. If it's being offered intact, as it is on DVD, you will learn some interesting differences; you might even see what has me so honked off.

What really hurts is, because NBG fans are satisfied with that hog slop, no one will ever finish the real BG.
I'd settle for one two hour TV movie.

Time for another truth suppository.

My Own Wost Enemy was an NBC show I like, recently canceled because it only drew an average of 6.1 million viewers per week.

NBG draws less than a third of that, and is slowly losing viewers as time passes; yet Yahoo listed it as a "favorite returning show".

To quote Lord Helmet, "I knew it, I'm surrounded by @ssh*les!"
