I recently heard someone refer to an "original" pilot for Firefly. By that meaning, not the pilot we saw, but an unaired one. I know Whedon had an unaired pilot for Buffy. Was/is the same thing true for Firefly? If so, I need to find it. Laughing

I presume when they refered to the original pilot they meant just that, Serenity Parts one and two and not The Train Job the episode that of course opened the series in the states. Unless I am wrong its just a instance of someone using the word 'pilot' in place of 'premiere' or 'First episode'. Strictly speaking surely Firefly didn't have a pilot as it was commissioned as thirteen epiosdes off the bat on the strenght of Joss Whedon's work on Buffy and Angel. Unless it has changed its meaning I always took it to mean a single episode which gives the networks the chance to see whether the idea works or has the ratings.

Of course there is the issue of Inara, as Morena B...whatever replaced another actress who I can't recall at present. Perhaps there is an edit with her scenes available somewhere like Youtube.

The unaired Buffy pilot had a different Willow, so maybe it is the same type thing here. I guess I will find out next week. Whoever it was who mentioned is supposed to bringing it to the get together we are having locally.

Serenity Parts 1&2 was presented to Fox as the Pilot, but they chose not to air it. Joss and Tim Minear wrote "The Train Job" in three days and Fox decided to Air that first. Serenity was never intended to air; Fox did it AFTER they had announced the cancellation. Watch it, and you'll catch a major editing mistake, due to the fact that no one expected it to be broadcast by that point. Near the end, Wash is next to Zoe, "Flying" the ship without the controls in his hand; he's only pretending to hold it! Smile

I'm willing to bet that Serenity was what you saw at your get-together, Fringey... right? :)

Actually, I was completely off-base. It wans't what i thought it was going to be, but a documentary on the making of the movie that someone did.

You know I've passed this on but there is a firefly crossover in the new BSG minisearies. If you watch the part where Rosalin (sorry spelling) is sitting in the doctors office and look out the windows you'll see a Firefly class starship coming in for a landing.

Yes, there is. The people who do effects for BSG also did Serenity/Firefly and threw it in there. It is about a 2-3 second bit out the window in the miniseries. I think it about 12 minutes or so in. Later in the miniseries, there is a shot of the original Enterprise in amongst the fleet of survivors, but that one is much harder to see. You have to freeze frame the shot and go to the highest magnification you can to see it.

Actually if you freeze frame on the Rever line in Serenity you may see some very fermilyer ship from both Star Wars, Babalon 5, I thin I even recignized the Darkstar. Check it out you might see some intersting stuff.

I will look at that, Andrew. Is this when they are first coming into the Reaver "graveyard"?
