Ask and you shall recieve. At first i didn't think the Boy Wizard was a suitable subject established for the meeting of scifi fans for relationships, but with two topics already posted on the fantasy world created by J K Rowlings and next year being a big year for Harry (a new movie and hopefuly the last book) i figured why not. Thanks feedback
Why did i think Harry Wasn't right here? well, its a kids book. However the story and writing is good enough for Adults. I know that i am not the only potter head over 18 out there, but are you? I have topics up the sorting hat however right now im just happy being first

Hell yeah I absolutely looove the Harry Potter series! I thought it was going to be stupid when i first started reading it years ago but it turns out I couldnt put it down, its just so enthralling...

When i first heard of Harry Potter i thought it was a rip off of the Worst Witch. But it turned out 100 times better.

I didn't even read my first HP book until there were already four of them out! I thought that nothing could be as good as all the hype for it. Then I saw the first movie and THEN read the first four books at a fast clip. These are amazingly good books. Now, I am just another of the masses of Harry Potter fans out here desperately awaiting the 7th book.

I have not read any of the books.
I've only seen one movie: Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets.
Given that the movie was almost certainly edited for television, I probably didn't get the best model for comparison but it seemed okay to me.
I didn't answer the poll regarding this topic thread, because none of the responses suited my take on the subject.
I would have voted, "eh, I can take it or leave it," if offered that choice---but you can't really go by me. I've seen it, been there, done that, bought the T-shirt and wore it out.
You'd have to have topless women with their hair on fire juggling pinless hand grenades in glass jars on a tightrope above a shark tank to really get my attention these days.

at least you have an open mind bear.
Judging from your posts you might be bored with the first few books but the later ones are dark and more mature.
That is the best part of the series the books mature with the readers and very rarly speaks down to them.

Pondering Cooky's point, ''The books mature with the reader'' Mm, come on, guys never grow up.
I first came across the books while through voluntary work in the Primary School sector, The Philosipher's Stone had just won the Cancierge Medal and The Chambers of Secrets had been released. The year 3 class that I was working with used as the part of a class project, I was intrigued and it is always a good idea if you are going to be helping children with their reading that you have some idea of what they are reading. Believe me, if you pose the question 'So, what happened in the book?'' the answer you get in some cases will display an imagination that would turn many a professional writer green with envy.
As much as I enjoy the Potter books it is a shame that they have tended to overshadow other Children's books that are perhaps superior. Diane Wynne Jones has never managed to gain the recognition and crossover success in all her years of treading similar ground to the world of Master Potter.

I'm afraid My only extended interaction with Primary school kids or as we call them in the U S "Tweens" are my 4 neices/ nephews. The only other books they like are Aragon and the Lemony Snicket series. Pherhaps after book 7 is out interest in other simelar books will rise. It just seems That the joy of reading was disapearing till Potter came around
I have one nephew who only likes the movies. I think the movies came out too soon

Jamie, while the Potter books ma have overshadowed better books, I tend to hope they are like gateway books that get kids otherwise uninterested in reading to do so. Plus, their success HAS gained some recognition for other fantasy books to make the leap from a niche market type into more public arenas. The success of both the Potter books/movies and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy has brought the public into an awareness of other classics that, hopefully, younger readers will also discover. As Cooky mntioned, the Lemony Snickets books and Eragon might not have made it to movie screens and bigger book sales without Harry Potter being so successful. And it is a golden opportunity for parents to say "You like Harry Potter? You will love...."

Well for me at first Potter felt like a rehash of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant form Star Wars mixed with a little Lord of the Rings but it took me until the third movie to really get intersted hay I might not read the books but I do like the movies.
