Your favorite music

Ask, and there it is; a forum for discussing music.
Personally, I can't pin down a favorite type (if you saw my CD collection, you'd understand) but I'd like to know what everyone else here enjoys.

Currently, I'm excited to learn that Evanescence has a new album; their previous release, Fallen, is a wonderful collection of heroic, melancholy, and downright creepy verse, brought to life by a magnificent songbird.

Went channel surfing the other night, happened to catch Evanescence performing a song from their new album, The Open Door.
Definitely going into my CD collection asap!

I am eclectic too, but mostly into old school rock & roll. KISS Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, Beatles, Aerosmith, etc.

I most likely have the most random music collection in my family. I have pop (from when I was 13 and don't listen to anymore), rock, classical, and techno/eletronica. I mostly listen to rock/punk (the radio station in my car is always on 101.1 aka Q101 in Chicago) and techno/eletronica. I have all three Evanescence CDs and both Killer CDs.

Look, I didn't hear any screaming or squishing sounds.

My itunes is a joyous romp throught just about every musical genre there is. I love everything from show tunes to the S-- Pistols to ODB to the soundtrack of O Brother Where Art Thou?.

The song that would best describe would be either "Last Dance With Mary Jane" by Tom Petty or "Jane Says" by Jane's Addiction.

I don't know if that has to do with anything or not.

My MP3 player has about 1800 songs on it. Everything from KISS to the Ramones to Evanesence to bluegrass ( well, it IS a bluegrass tribute to KISS ) to Midnight Syndicate, so I know were both of you are going when you say eclectic. It was weird one night at work, when I went from Type O Negative's "Black #1 ( who I heard do a cool remake by of the Phil Collins song, In the Air Tonight, last night) to MiG doing Peter Frampton's "Baby I Love Your Way" from Rockstar INXS last year. Talk about a weird shift!

I have the soundtrack to the movie Xanadu on CD, an upgrade from cassette, upgraded from vinyl (tough to get a car stereo that used LPs---har-de-har-har).
On the other side, you don't want to be in the car if I'm driving and "Enter Sandman" comes on the radio; I could scare a Kamakaze pilot.

Showtunes are generally movie soundtracks:
Top Gun,
Grease (Beauty School Dropout is a hoot)
007 theme songs,
the movie Heavy Metal (the first one)
Flashdance

but I have a total obsession with the works of Herb Alpert, with or without the TJB.

My dad was a trumpet player and loved Alpert. As for Grease, I just bought the Rockin' Rydell DVD edition. I can't wait to watch that when i get home in the morning. Weird you mentioned it tonight.

Hey, the biggest things about the 70's were disco, a revival of the fifties and KISS. Two out of three ain't bad.

"I love the nightlife, I got to boogie, on the disco ho-waaaaa, ho-yeaaaah..." this tune by Alicia Bridges was put to hilarious use in the film Love at First Bite starring the tan-man himself, George Hamilton as Count Dracula.
(No I'm not kidding, look it up.)

In my experience people who don't like Disco, cannot dance---and yes, one of the skeletons in my closet is wearing a powder blue polyester leisure suit (people really believed that was the way of the future...hoo.)
Personally, I embrace all music. No I'm not so fond of Country & Western or Rap, but there are a few I like very much---Rap especially, if it's something heroic like Will Smith's "MIB" or the "Ninja Turtle Rap" by Partners in Kryme.

Okay here's one for the rest of you: I tend to judge a movie or TV show by its theme music. If they put an effort into some good tunes to open the show, they probably have a high production value throughout.

Actually, I am a quite excellent dancer. Disco IS good for dancing, but that is it. Otherwise, same beat, same rhythms in just about every song. Tiresome and annoying. My own opinion. Your mileage my vary.

Actually, I think theme music is far less important than it used to be. Back in the day, you could sing the theme songs to just about of your favorite shows. Or at leas thum them if they did not have words. These days, I I can not think of but maybe one or two themes I can do that with. Weird. What was the last theme song to get radio play and become a hit single? I can't remember unless it "I'll Be There" by the Rembrandts for Friends?

Is it strange if a kid likes the music that their parents used to listen to?

I seem to have that problem with my parents, I stole their CD that they got from their 30th High School Reuion and have no intention of giving it back.

I actually think that leisure suits are kind of cool.
