The irony of demanding a ban on something, is people who would not normally take an interest will check out the material in question, to see what all the fuss is about.
ABC-TV ran Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets last night. Now that've I've seen one of these stories, I can weigh in on the subject.
Eh, it's okay. I would not make a habit of it, but I didn't see anything that should make church people run screaming through the streets either.
That's the problem with all people of all religions these days; it's just way too easy to set them off. If you're so sure you're right, why are you worried about a political cartoon or a children's book?
Get a grip, people---of course there are two words that all religious people fear and hate:
prove it.
"Oh, I hadn't thought of that," said God, who then disappeared in a puff of logic.

Nah.
Potter doesn't misrepresent Wicca, either.
Hogwarts is something more akin to Bedknobs and Broomsticks; a realm of wizardry unto its own.

Wow...trying to get books banned is what this women spends her spare time doing?! What happened to freedom of speech? If she finds it questionable then she has every right to not read the books and every right to not let her own children read the books but what on earth does she think gives her the right to attempt to dictate what others can and cant read? If it is about her religious views then by all means she should be attempting to ban things like the Qur'an or anything else that holds a differing religious view from her own... People like this make me sick. Suppression of ideas and imagination is hardly a step forward for humankind.

Former penal colony, Cooky---and you should never tick off people who can kick --- without spilling a drop of beer. (Saw it once for myself, I did, and was deeply impressed---but that's a story for another time.)
Back to the topic at hand...
Far too many people all around the world are firmly convinced freedom of choice means you are free to choose what they damn well tell you or else!
What to do about them is the question; personally I think they should be used for truly authentic movie stunts.

Not if she has them enrolled in public school, she doesn't. We've (in the US) actually had cases of CPS putting into motion to have elementary school children taken from their homes because the schools were insisting that they read something the parents found objectionable and the parents had to keep them home to keep it from happening. Pure insanity. The press isn't so great about telling outcomes when there's comprimise but I know of at least one high profile case where the parents ended up enrolling the kid in private school. "Everyone must conform...there must be no differences." lol It's all or nothing in the schools. Either everyone can read the book, regardless of their families oppinions...or no one can, regardless of their families oppinions.
Of course, that's totally off topic and in no way justifies this lady trying to ban a book she's never read because she thinks it encourages to do the physically impossible in their persuit of a religion she clearly knows nothing about. People are stupid. Just accept it and life will run much more smoothly. ;)

The Georgia Board of Education voted on Dec. 14 to uphold a local school board's decision to leave Harry Potter books on library shelves, despite a mother's objections that they promoted witchcraft, the Associated Press reported.
The board members voted without discussion to back the Gwinnett County school board's decision to deny Laura Mallory's request to remove the best-selling books.
Mallory, who has three children in elementary school, has worked for more than a year to ban the books from Gwinnett schools, claiming the popular fiction series is an attempt to indoctrinate children in witchcraft.
Gwinnett school officials have argued that the books are good tools to encourage children to read and to spark creativity and imagination. Banning all books with references to witchcraft would mean classics such as Macbeth and Cinderella would have to go, they said.
J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books have been challenged 115 times since 2000, making them the most challenged texts of the 21st century, according to the American Library Association.

Last week the American Library Association celebrated Banned Book Week.
Among the honorees were Tom Sawyer, To Kill a Mockingbird and of course, Harry Potter.
Personally I'd use a Harry Potter book to prop a door open but hey, whatever floats your boat---and since 25% of adults polled admitted they read no books in all of 2006, FOR PITY'S SAKE CRACK A BOOK, YOU ILLITERATE FOOLS!
Skimming the list, it would seem the banned books are the best reading.
All I have to do now is get some church lady to read one of mine---same sex-marriage, same-sex harrassment, mass murder, torture, and gruesome death---and I'll be rich!
