Doctor Eight for BBC7New McGann radio adventures from Christmas.

BBC7 are launching a season of new Eighth Doctor audio adventures. Produced by Big Finish, the eight 50-minute episodes are bookended with Dalek and Cybermen two-parters.

Joining Paul McGann's Doctor as new companion Lucie Miller is Two Pints of Lager actress Sheridan Smith.

The guest cast is equally impressive: Timothy West, Kenneth Cranham, Anita Dobson, Nerys Hughes, Ian McNeice, Elspet Gray, Ben Silverstone, Stephen Gately, Bernard Cribbins, Julia McKenzie, Nigel Havers, Roy Marsden and Nickolas Grace all feature.

The stories will be aired weekly on BBC7 from New Year's Eve in the following order:

* Blood Of The Daleks by Steve Lyons
* Horror Of Glam Rock by Paul Magrs
* Immortal Beloved by Jonathan Clements
* Phobos by Eddie Robson
* No More Lies by Paul Sutton
* Human Resources by Eddie Robson

Enhanced versions of the stories will be released on CD by Big Finish later in 2007.

More McGann. A very good thing. I always felt he was shortchanged by getting just the one adventure onscreen. I also love the pun in the title, "The Horror Of Glam Rock". "The Horror of Fang Rock" is, in my opinion, one of the best Tom Baker episodes ever. I will definitely be looking forward to these.

Paul McGann is, of course, a splendid, splendid Doctor. And thank heavens for Big Finish providing him an opportunity to prove it these past few years. It's great to have some projects designed specifically for radio boadcast featuring the Eighth Doctor. I do fear they may try and cover the regeneration into Eccleston at some point though; very possibly not a bad thing, but I always wanted to *see* that (not that we're ever likely to).

I wonder if Horror of Glam Rock will feature Katy Manning as Iris Wildthyme?

RTD didn't give us a McGann Eccleston regen, but there is an exellent fan film out there on Youtube called Timewar, wich is probably the best fan film I have ever seen done with scenes from the sereis and TVM. You should check it out. I think the guy did three versions and the third is awesome. I actually found it somewhere to dl, and have kept it since.

I thinki these adventures will be fun. Some of these sound like they would have made excellent eps for TV. Shame McGann only got the TVM.

Paul McGann seems to be a somewhat grumpier but the same time livelier Eight than he has been in recent Big Finish plays. Sheridan Smith made a fairly solid debut as Lucie Miller, though I would have prefered her to be a little more 'Love Soup' than 'Two Pints'. Anita Dobson, Kenneth Cranham and Hayley Atwell all provide solid support in the guest cast.

In teerms of what Steve Lyons has written for audio before I would say it doesn't quite reach the heights of 'Colditz' but is certainly on par with his previous Eight adventure - 'Time Works'.

The end of 'Blood of the Daleks - Part Two' gives some hint to what it might have been that Lucie saw to put her in the custody of the Timelords, with Mister Hulbert's call to the Headhunter.

Hulbert is possibly the same chap played by Roy Marsden in the end of series story, 'Human Resources'.

I look forward to hearing these. But, I am gonna wait until the series is complete and I can hear it all at once. I just uploaded some Doctor Who and Sarah Jane Smith Big Finish audios to my iPod to listen to at work during the slow times. I have all the SJS and the DW is The Apocalypse element. I have some others at home to add once I have listened to these. Can't remember which ones.

Wonderful music.

A very entertaining script from Paul Sutton which sees him suceed in mixing traditional Who and romance in a way that his previous attempts for Big Finish, 'Arrangements for War' and 'Thicker Than Water' did not.

And a good cliffhanger involving Lucie Miller that leads up to the two part finale with our old friends from Telos.
