|

A bit of discussion about Halloween music in another post got me thinking about this. Other than the myriad of sound effects albums out there, what kind of music sets the mood for Halloween for you? I love a lot of the Goth stuff, like Bauhaus and Nosferatu. I also love Type O Negative. There are also the movie soundtracks to Halloween and the Exorcist, which are decidedly creepy. My favorite mood music is just about anything by a band called Midnight Syndicate. With CDs like Realm of Shadows, Born of the Night, Gates of Delirium, and Vampyre : Symphonies from the Crypt, these guys just know how to do creepy music. This is the perfect soundtrack for any Halloween party. Any others you folks can think of?

Evanescence is not only the first and most important skill a ninja must master, but it's also a magnificent musical group led by a marvelous, menancholy songbird.
I fully recommend their first album, Fallen, for your Halloween (and year 'round) enjoyment.
I've seen an ad for a new album and I have a birthday coming up so gift to myself!

I'll post a list of music I've collected over the years. But for sheer creepiness, the sound track to Stephen King's The Shining (the t.v. mini-series) is just plain out of sight. The theme song is the best for terror sound tracks!
Of course, I do so love the old, original, Dark Shadows sound track. I have that on cd now. Took awhile to find, too. Hearing Jonathan Frid speaking gothic poetry to the music is just awesome!
I like the Halloween sound track but it gets to much play. So I play other sound tracks a bit more, living Halloween 1 & 2 as the final ones. Night of the Living Dead has some good stuff too. Especially the voice overs from the film. "They're coming to get you, Barbra. They're coming for you! Look... There's one of them now!"
I'll post the more rock and roll party stuff in a bit. I put them on cd and created a fake band called Children Of The Night who is suppose to be singing the songs. I used these cds when when I ran horror RPGs and the group would enter a goth bar or some such place.
Stay tuned!

I have 2 cds full of Classical stuff for Halloween, 2 cds full of Jazz, 2 cds full of Blues, 20 cds for Rock, 2 Celtic cds, all three cds that Elvira put out, 1 cd of Country, and several of Dr. Demento Halloween. Of course, I have several sound tracks from horror films. I guess you could say I like Horror music. I have been collecting this stuff for about 10 years now. There's a lot of junk out there, so I've had to wade through it all to get the better stuff. I can't stand stuff that simply screams at you and you can't understand anything they are saying.

You know when its close to Halloween when all the radio stations start playing 'Monster Mash' and you hear the song at least three times in an two hour period.
I really don't see how Evanescence is Halloween music. (maybe, maybe a few songs)
Look, I didn't hear any screaming or squishing sounds. |

Scryer, I love the lists. However, I want to bring up the fact that you have NO KISS songs in your rock & roll lists!!! And did I miss Alice Cooper??? Kings of the Night Time World, God of Thunder, and Creatures of the Night definitely fit in there, off the top of my head. I would also mention Scary Monsters by David Bowie and If You Want Blood by AC/DC for your consideration. Of course, just about anything by Alice Cooper would fit in, including Feed My Frankenstein, Man Behind The Mask, Teenage Frankenstein, and the entire Welcome to My Nightmare album (with Vincent Price speaking on Black Widow!) You should definitely check out Midnight Syndicate. I think you would love their stuff.

Vincent Price raps on Michael Jackson's Thriller---it's a hoot!
Vala, have you listened to track five on the album Fallen?
The title is "Haunted", the lyrics are gothic and disturbing---but track nine makes me very, very sad.
The whole album tricks as it treats---but I just got a copy of The Open Door. Shutting down to slip it into the CD player now.
