Update: Spielberg buzz is bogus.
by Stax

September 18, 2006 - The rumor mill is suggesting that none other than Steven Spielberg might direct Jurassic Park IV. The Oscar winner helmed the first two flicks but stepped aside for the third installment, which was helmed by Joe Johnston.

Johnston reportedly remains Spielberg's pick to direct JPIV, according to Sky News and CinemaBlend.com. Should Johnston bow out, however, Spielberg is said to be willing to come back to helm the fourth movie.

If Spielberg is indeed willing to return to the dino-franchise then what does that mean for Indiana Jones IV? Both JPIV and Indy IV have a tentative 2008 release date.

Joe Johnston, meanwhile, has been courted to direct The Mummy III for Universal but sources tell IGN that he's probably not going to do it.

UPDATED 9/19: The fansite SpielbergFilms.com received confirmation from Spielberg's office that the JPIV rumor is false.

Will it never end? How many times can you do a movie with the exact same story? People get stuck on island with hungry dinosaurs and spend two hours trying to get away. At least in JP2, they had dinosaurs that got off the island! OK, maybe I am not being fair, cause I haven't read the script. But, after JP3, I don't expect a whole lot of originality to happen here. Maybe we will get lucky and a whole lot of dinosaurs will invade the U.S. mainland and we will have something more akin to a Godzilla movie. At least it would get us off that stupid island.

Dinosaurs eating people on island. Sounds good.

Dinosaurs eating different people on same island. Still Good.

I'm easily entertained. I think it will be hard for them to screw
up such a great concept. Of course, it's Hollywood, so it'll
be dinosaurs eating pretty people. The eye-candy bonus.

These comic strips featured the idea of Timetravelling humans returning to the time of the Dinosaurs to herd and cull Dinosaurs for the consumption of future society.

Sounds interesting, but how do they get past time paradoxes?

I am not familiar with those stories, but the time paradoxes could
easily be dealt with -- perhaps culling the dinosaur herds led
to the extinctions in the first place. Perhaps they only took dinosaurs
from near the tarpits or that were dying (and this would explain
the lack of fossil record of certain species, or lack of fossils in
certain places). You could make it all be consistent and resolve
potential paradoxes.

What disturbed me is this:

Dinosaurs eating people = fun movie.

People eating dinosaurs = not as much fun.

I think I am gonna see if I can track down the comics to see how they dealt with it.

jamie77 wrote: Ah, but iswallowedabug you could have a wonderful scene where a Tyransaurus rex escapes innto the future and spends a good few minutes gorging itself silly on Mr Creosote like future beings who have been stuffing themselves silly on Dino steaks.Surely,

TREX eating fat, overindulged people = Fun movie.

Just so long as we have the "dinosaur eating people" element.

And you get extra points for the irony, Jamie!

Dinosaur eating people who had eaten dinosaurs = a must see.

Just don't offer the Trex a wafer thin mint afterwards. That could be really gross.

A movie that is released simultaneously at the cinema, on dvd and to download on the internet. So its all left to the consumer to decide what way they want to watch it. Certainly a fair view column inches were written here in the UK about the possibility that this is what Tom Cruise has planned following his falling out with Paramount.

Surprisingly enough, Disney is one of the first major studios to be on the bandwagon for multi-platform releases. I think the days of movie theaters are coming to a close in the next couple of decades. With the equipment people have for their homes now coming down in price, you will soon be able to get the same experience at home. I think we will Pay Per View take the place of movie theaters eventually, followed by a one to two month DVD release time instead of three to six months as it currently is. The cost of going to the movies has skyrocketed and I know I would prefer staying home and saving the money. These days, most DVDs cost less than buying snacks at the movies!

I have to disagree Patrick. there is always the eneregy of seeing a movie in a full theatre. Unfortunatly you usualy only get that the first week. I used to work at a theatre. the show in the audience was sometimes better than the movie

Will someone shut that man up
NEVER!

I am sorry for not putting my two cents worth in on this before now. But here it is. NO! PLEASE! NO MORE! STOP! The first one was fantastic. The second one was ok. The third one left me going.... "Yawn." Unless they can breath some life into this one I think it should be left alone.

I feel the same way Scryer. Some franchises you can run forever with original ideas. JP is not one of them.
