Yeah, I know it wasn't aimed at me. I just wanted you to know I was on your side on this particular debate. :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beware the beast Man for he is the Devil's pawn.
Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, or ----, or greed.
Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land.
Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert out of his home and yours.
Shun him. Drive him back into his jungle lair.
For he is the harbinger of death.

How do you know that such people aren't ALREADY in therapy, for
several hours a week, and it's not helping as much as one hour of TV?
You are assuming far too much about the people you are judging.

You aren't speaking truth, you are speaking opinion. There's a
difference.

fringey wrote: Sitting in your home, using fictional characters and stories is NOT the way to reacha healthy life. Reaching out to others who can help you is the way. By excusing the behavior of those who would use TV as a crutch, then you are enabling their unhealthy lifestyle.

Different people heal in different ways. Sometimes reaching out
to real people isn't or CAN'T be the first step. Trust is a tricky
issue. Sometimes a first step in coming back into the real world
is to start believing there's a world to step back into. Sometimes
that's where TV comes in.

I think smoking is an unhealthy, disgusting habit. I hate it.
But there are people who have had far worse, far more damaging
and deadly addictions than cigarettes, who make their way back to
a more healthy lifestyle by way of smoking. It's still an addiction,
it's still not the healthiest they could be, but it's a step in the right
direction -- it's healthier than how they were living. So can
I say they're horrible people for smoking? No. For them, it's a step
towards health -- not away from it.

You can't put everyone into the same category -- people are
diverse, and different people have different ways of dealing with
the tragedies they face. The path you would take towards a healthier
life isn't necessarily going to work for everyone. And recognizing
that people are different and need to take different routes to get
them through their pain is not enabling -- it's realistic.

You said some things I found pretty judgmental and offensive, and
I called you on it. I never said or treated you as the enemy. I
even made a point in another thread where I disagreed with you
to make sure you knew I wasn't disagreeing just to attack you.

If you don't want the discussion to continue, that's fine. But,
and I muster up my best four year old voice, "you started it!"

You and I just seem to be disagreeing a lot lately, starting with the Battlestar Galactica discussion a couple of weeks back, Bug. Since it sometimes becomes obvious that no amount of discussion is going to change either of our positions, I just see no need to continue the discussion. Sometimes that just leads to more acrimonious postings and I think we are probably both here to enjoy ourselves, not to fight with someone. I figure it is just better to agree to disagree and get on with life.

Wrap some duck tape around your head, because your skull may explode.

Sometimes TV can provide better therapy. I've known therapists who've watched a patient's favorite TV shows as a way of relating to them, but sometimes it's the show itself. I've had some lousy, ineffective talk therapy---too many psychiatrists just want to hand you a bottle of pills and send you out the door, but the TV is always there.
Everything you need to know about life you can learn from watching Star Trek; but there's much much more. I was deeply offended by an episode of Law & Order where a man suffering from Manic Disphoria was murdered by his brother and girlfriend, and the girl D.A. wanted to be lenient---still love it, because it's just a TV show.
Occasionally, I tune in to Jerry Springer because as bad as my life sucks, at least I'm not those people.

Bumblestore Galactiqueer sucks---and I have lost all respect for that spineless sellout Richard Hatch, and all hope for the return of the real Battlestar Galactica.
Angry and disgusted I am; but who's the crybaby who blocks my emails, hmmm?
(Well, I think Bub still takes my calls.)
Those who fear the truth, bar the door against it---I win again.
