I am heading down to Dragon Con in Atlanta on Labor Day Weekend and wondered how many people here were as well. Anyone who is, and is interested in meeting a new friend, let me know and we will try to find a way to connect.

like to..I know a guy who goes every year. The band Spock's Beard played there one year. And JK Rowling made an appearance a few years back.

In Minnesota we have CONvergence, MarsCON, and many others tho..but DragonCON is bigger than any of them. Back in the day, MiniCON was of DragonCON's level I guess..but mind you, I actually prefer them to not be too crowded if possible.

have fun..any big names appearing this year?

Don't you guys have some great Doctor Who cons? I would LOVE to get to Australia for one of those. Plus, on another note, KISS did do their ONLY show with a symphony in Melbourne. I hated not being able to go to that!

I can actually give you a really great link:

(removed)

That can help you find any conventions that will be in the area you are visitng for the time frame of your visit. The biggest conventions I know of are the Comic Con in Sand Diego, CA in August which is MASSIVE with over 100 thousand people attneding, plus TONS of major guests. The other is Dragon Con in Atlanta, Gerogia every Labor Day wekeend (first Monday in October is Labor Day) and it usually has hundreds of guest and about 30 thousand attendees. Last big con of the year, really, as school has started back. But there are probably literally dozens of smaller cons all year round around the country, some of which are very specialized. Hope that helps a little.

Gen Con in Indiana is another huge convention held each year. I know more people who attend Comi-Con and Dragon*Con though.

I think Gen Con is mostly, or all, gaming, isn't it? DC and Comic Con draw more because they are multi media. But, for those into gaming, Gen Con is the ONE, to my understanding.

Well, I have been back from D*C for a few days now, but had not had a chance to get back here to post. I picked up a bout of "con crud" and have been ill the last couple of days. But, I am better now.

It was an awesome con, with a huge number of people. No official count yet, but I am betting about 40K this year. I got to sit in on several panels that were very enjoyable. The guys from the Ghost Hunters were absolutley the best panels I have been to in years. Plus, they stayed in the same hotel I did, a couple of blocks from the main con hotel, so I ran into Brian, Jason and Grant a couple of times at the hotel.

I spent a ton of money, mainly on autographs. I just about doubled my number of autographs in my collection. I also picked up about half a dozen DVDs, which is far less than I normally get, but I was focuessed on autographs this year with so many fantastic guests, some of them true legends.

I also marched in the Dragon Con Parade this year, for the first time, and that was an awesome time. As I was K'Blahm, the first Jester to the Klingon Empire, I mainly messed with the Feddies and Romulans in the Star Trek group the Klingons were with. The crowd seemed to enjoy my antics a lot. The highlight of the stuff I saw before the parade started was a guy who has built his own replica of the 1966 Batmobile. Awesome job! Check it out at www.batlantacrimecruiser.com It is a perfect replica, especially since the guy did not have a Ford Futura to start out with and worked it up from an 87 Vette. I HAD to have my pic taken with that! I evidently missed a fantastic reporduction of Ecto One, though, but they are supposed to be back next year.

My experiences with the celebrities were all great this year. I loved chatting with the guys from Ghosthunters. I also really enjoyed talking to Aaron Douglas and Taimoh Penikett from BSG. I told them they were the luckiest guys in the world to get to work on such a great show AND to get to do love scenes with Grace Park!!! Gary Jones from SG-1 was also fun to chat with. It was also absolutely brilliant to get to meet a true legend like Mickey Rooney. I was in awe of him.

The highlights for me with the celebs were when I met George Romero and he loved my Klingon Jester costumes, my jewelry, etc. He told me I had a great costume and "the neatest stuff". THE BEST moment was when I was walking past Rip Taylor and he saw that costume. He thought it was hilarious and just had to have a pic taken with me. Okay, so a comedy legend thinks I am hilarious and wants a pic with me??? Yeah, we can do that!!!!

The only downsides to the whole weekend were that I did not have enough money to get all the autographs I wanted, and there were some malfunctions with my Obi Hayve costume, so I did not get to wear that, but there will be next year.

I am back in Mundania now and just counting the days till next Dragon Con!
