I posted flyers in local comic andf gaming shops, books stores, etc. I also planned the get togethers according to my schedule so it would be somethign I would not miss out on. I also made it friendly to just about anything anyone could get into, becausse my interests are so broad, I can enjoy the company of a wide variety of people. I have been able to meet a lot of cool people through this group. Start your own group like my Bug-Eyed Monster Society!

At one point I thought about starting up a meetup for sci-fi and sci-fanticy writers but I didn't know how it would work. I'll have to see how that would work out.

Well you can do what I did and start a Yahoo group. They are free. Or you can go to meetup.com, I think that is it, and they have various meetup options, like Star Trek, etc. But, they charge you money for those. Of course, you may find there are already meetups in our area that you might be able to go to. That way, it wouldn't cost you anything! Also check at your local comic and gaming stores to see if there are already other groups in your area you might be interested in joining.

I'm a member of the local Star Wars Fan Force but I don't get to do much with them because of the four letter word "work".

I hear ya about the work thing. That is why starting your own group is good. , cause you can schedule things at YOUR convenience.

You all are so entrepeneuring.
Bug-Eyed Monster Society? Awesome.

Cyber sex? Excuse me while I fall asleep. I'd rather be a risky adventurerer and take my chances in the big wide world.

The B.E.M. Society has been a lot of fun. We get together at least once a month and do movie nights and sometimes other stuff. I started it because I am not a fan of all the rules that some of these fan clubs get into and just wanted a group for people to meet and hang out.
