Imagi options screen rights.
by Stax
September 14, 2006 - Astro Boy's long journey to the silver screen has taken yet another step forward with the project's screen rights being acquired by a new entity.
Imagi Animation Studios, who are making the upcoming CG feature version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, have optioned the rights from Japan's Tezuka Productions.
As with their TMNT movie, Imagi plans to turn Astro Boy into a CG-animated feature-length film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They plan a 2009 release.
Hollywood has tried for years to bring Astro Boy to the big-screen. Columbia Pictures announced in 2004 that Genndy Tartakovsky would direct a live-action version for Angry Films and Jim Henson Pictures. That never came to pass.
Astro Boy debuted in 1952 as a manga comic before becoming a TV phenomenon in 1963. The character was created by Osamu Tezuka.

Only if they style the Mach 5 from the original, not from the new series done a few years ago.

Speaking of cool cars, a guy in Atlanta has built an exact replica of the '66 Batmobile that they had in the Dragoncon parade this year. This thing was awesome and I am so jealous of him! If you want to see it, just let me know and i will post the link. Or you can go to flickr and just search dragoncon parade 2006. There are hundreds of pics there. The guy has a website that shows the project from start to finish.

The build pics are slow to load, so you can choose to go right to the finished pics if you want. But I like the build pics, too.
