With all the news lately of Spielberg making a new film based on the classic 80's Animation Transformers I was wondering what other animations people may remember and which ones they think would make a great feature film ....you also don't have to stick to cartoons you can recall old programmes too here's some popular and more obscure I recall
Bananaman - great animation, when Eric ate a banana he would become him and fight crime with his crow for some reason an appleman villan always springs to mind or maybe I'm thinking of the comics. (I think this may only have been released in UK &Ireland)
Thundercats - Hoooo!!........ Liono, Panthro and the rest of the gang oh and wasn't it the sword of Omens and the eye of thundera ....I still shock myself how much I remember lol
Jamie and the magic torch - I will always have fond memories of this cartoon I wanted to be Jamie as a child I can still remember trying to jump into the light when I would shine my torch on the floor (I think this may only have been released in UK &Ireland)
MASK - Some people don't remember this it was about a group called MASK who have super hi tech vehicles and a particular mask/helmet that gives the wearer a special ability...... They fought a group called Venom.
Batfink - crimefighter bat that had Wings of steel his partner was a dopey kung fu guy lol
Centurions - they were three heroes and had power suits that kind of looked liked they were legosuits with holes for different things like rockets and stuff that would attach to them when the shouted Power Extreme.
Gummi Bears - great theme tune about bears who bounced here and there and everywhere high adventure thats beyond compare we are the gummi bears WE ARE THE GUMMI BEARS I liked the theme tune too much
Pole position - Brother and sister crimefighting team continuing where their deceased parents left off they were stunt drivers and had Knightrider type of cars (they talked lol)
Bravestar - I don't think this lasted very long he was basically a space cowboy had a talking, big gun shooting, Horse partner and his enemy was a guy called Tex Hex
Visionaries - These fellas had holographic animals on their chest that the could project and fight I also think they had sheilds that done the same
Space Sentinels - Three heroes one fella possessed great strength another great speed and the lady could change into animals they could all fly and were controlled by a big holographic face in front of computer switches and lights
Ulysses 31 - Space adventure where he defied the Gods in order to save his son and is condemned to travel through unknown space searching for Earth he had a laser gun that also doubled as a laser sword and had a holographic type shield ....my sisters fancied him ......I'm still in therapy today lol
Dungeons and Dragons - Six kids get transported to a magical mysterious realm and are given weapons and items to help them........ they are aided by a little guy called Dungeonmaster and their enemy was Venger ....Great show!!
He-Man - Prince Adam would hold aloft his magical sword and turn into He-Man and truthfully not change very much deeper voice more tanned, different outfit lol but he was the most powerful man in the universe.
Mr Benn - He would travel to his local costume store and try on a new outfit every week and get transported somewhere to experience a new adventure.(I think this may only have been released in UK &Ireland)
Bod - Great animation I always loved the milkshake flavour guessing bit.(I think this may only have been released in UK &Ireland)
Mr Men - Mr Happy, mr Tickle, Mr Noisy and all the rest of the gang and I have to say I learned alot from Mr Bump lol.
And old more obscure shows I remember.....
Manimal - A show about a guy who could into animals though I think it used to be mainly a black Panther and a hawk
The Gemini Man - Re-invented Invisible Man story only the guy was able to control it using his digital watch - when digital watches were the in thing to have!!
Streethawk - Came out on the heels of Nightrider about a guy with a superpower computer motorbike
The Fall Guy - Bounty Hunter and Stunt guy Lee 'Bionic Man' Majors starred
Voyagers - This is a show that didn't last very long it was about a man and a young boy who traveled through time using an appliance that resembled a gold watch
The Powers of Matthew Starr - It was about a young alien prince who comes to Earth fleeing his enemies ...of course he is a good looking teen with powers and has a tutor/ Guardian played by Louis Gossett Jr.
Tucker's Witch - Not many remember this but it was about a cop who had a witch as his wife........ okay a bit like Bewitched only a more series edge
MacGyver - The science detective who could build a weapon out of a chewing gum wrapper and some hair clips lol
Doogie Howser,M.D. - The child Doctor comedy/drama
Quantum Leap - Oh boy! Sam Beckett goes from life to life makings things better.
Mr Merlin - Comedy about a modern day Merlin training a new apprentice
Automan - Computer Superhero with the same look as Tron.
Does anyone think any of these shows would make a good movie? I know some have been made into movies but I really do believe they could be given real justice today with new special effects I would love to see a Fall Guy, Visionaries, Automan or Ullysses 31 movie |

I'd like to add Ultraman to the list. I used to watch it with my lil' brother everyday after school when we got home, and we loved it.
Typical japanese costumed superhero fighting monsters with a number of special moves, and special powers.
The monsters were horribly costumed foes, and the special effects were laughable at best...but in the mind of a kid, prior to all the stuff we see today, it was SciFi at it's finest. |

I don't remember Ultraman at all Michael but it sounds good it did remind me of another cartoon though that was made by the Japanese Battle of the Planets. About five kids known as G Force who have super powers, vehicles and weapons. The also had a main ship that could turn into a flaming Pheonix. Any one recall The Greatest American Hero it was a comedy/drama about a guy who finds a Alien suit which gives him Super Powers.
Thanks for the heads up there Jamie!!
I left the more obvious ones out cause I knew everyone would know them already but just for you bud
The A Team - Four soldiers of fortune who go around Los Angeles helping those in need from bullying gangs..... bullets fly, cars crash and blow up but not one person dies conclusion ... A big Family hit!!
Airwolf - Stringfellow Hawk flys a super powered helicopter it looked cool he didn't playiong his cello I was still a huge fan though |

I LOVE Battle of the Planets. No one ever seems to remember
that one but me, but now I know I didn't imagine it.
A few years ago, there was talk of a Greatest American Hero movie.
Someone was hired to write a script, but I haven't heard anything
since then. I'd love to see this come back as a series. There
was so much more they could do, and so much more to learn about
the aliens. Plus, watching Robert Culp eating dog biscuits just never
got old.
And The Fall Guy has one of the best theme songs ever.
Fun list. |

Star Blazers is in the stages of probably becoming a movie. I would love to see Robotech as a live-action movie, but then it would have to be a trilogy. Isis and Shazam would be my next picks, although they need good directors and writers for these films. |

No you haven't just imagined it iswallowedabug Mark was the Leader (white), Jason was the second he was the one with the bad temper and cool stuff (blue), Princess was the nice female (White and Pink), Ceocht (yellow) was the funny speaking weird short guy and Tiny the big guy who mostly piloted the main ship (green)
and get this I switched on the telly about two years ago and seen it again only the guys who brings us Power Rangers have bought the rights to it and have changed all the names its still exactly the same cartoon only different dialogue ...it was now called Eagle Riders or something ......I couldn't believe the sacrilege a perfectly great and classic cartoon destroyed ..
I loved the theme tune of both the Greatest American Hero and The Fall Guy ... I wonder why it wasn't made into a movie or a new series ....I must investigate it further!!
I haven't heard of Star Blazers or any of the other ones that you mention Rayman except the last one Shazam which rang a bell so I looked it up and then remembered the old Captain Marvel character I don't think we got the cartoon but I do remember the comics bud. Though I was more of a Marvel Comics guy!! |

I absolutely have to add "Captain Planet" to this list. That show was awesome!! Him and his gang fighting the evil scum who wish to polute and destroy our world...plus it had a totally catchy tune. "captain planet hes our hero, gonna take polution down to zero"
Also 'The Tick'..which was made into a very short lived live action tv show which i am still yet to see... The cartoon was hilarious.
And there was this Australian made tv show that I used to watch religiously after I got home from school called "Spellbinder" It was really good!
Other than that pretty much most of the ones lucifer mentioned are pretty good and would maybe make kool movies. |

That sounds more depressing than the American version of "Coupling"! |

Well to start, Disney just Finnished filming Underdog here in Rhode Island.
Second Wizzard Magazine just did an article on this. Sorry Mask is only on the list as the least likely to be mad into a movie. But attempts at the Ninja turtles and He Man are on the drawing board, as well as Voltron, GIJoe, and yes the Smurfs |

Isis and Shazam Power Hour was a Saturday morning live-action show back in the '70s, that's right actors wearing costumes. It was really cheesy but I have to admit that I watched every episode when I was a kid. "Oh mighty Isis!"
I heard last year of a Land of the Lost movie starring Will Farrell but I guess the project never got off the ground. There's already a script for Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter is still hot by the way. |

Ah yes Captain Planet invisiblesteph I never understood though the poor guy who had the heart ring ...he always seemed the odd one out as the others had Earth, Wind, Fire Water lol Did you know Levar Burton (Geordie in Star Trek TNG) did the voice of the earth guy and Whoopie Goldberg done the voice of Gaia and later in a return series of C.P. Margot Kidder (Lois in Superman) took over Gaia's voice ...... oh and one last thing remember... "THE POWER IS YOURS"
The Tick was also good but I always seemed to miss it ...it always seemed to be on when I was out and I don't recall Spellbinder at all ...but I bet it had half the casts of Neighbours, Home and far far way (well we all hoped it was called that lol) Sons and Daughters and The Young Doctors
I couldn't believe it iswallowedabug it was so bad they even had Ceocht some kind of Android too ...it totally ruined BOTP in my mind. Do yourself a favour and never watch it
The Smurfs? Cooky wouldn't that be class!! Oh and Anyone who says they didn't fancy Smurfette is a liar lol I hope the make better movies of the Turtles and He-Man then were done before a few years back which were truly bad!! Who can forget Dolph Lundgren as the most powerful man in the Universe? and some red haired dwarf as Orco?
Live Action? really Rayman? Its amazing the stuff we thought was cool years ago I'm exactly the same stuff I see today that I thought was brill when I was a kid makes me cringe now
I also heard about the new Wonder Woman I forgot to add that show ...I also loved Lynda Carter .. a very beautiful woman ...So who do you all think could take over the role? Denise Richards perhaps..... well she has the babalons
There's other shows I forgot too The bionic Man/Six Million Dollar Man ...and okay the Bionic Woman ..... The arguments I had with sisters of mine about which one was the best always leaves a bitter taste whenever that character is mentioned now ........ well he was always going to be physically stronger being a man and his eye was always better than her ear for he could lip read ....okay I have calmed down now l. |

Yeah I was exactly the same as yourself Jamie on a Saturday morning it would be on and I would be the first at the tv set ....the closest thing to the look of the red robot at the end is the power rangers robot though of course Starfleet's was better . I remember seeing 'The 100 greatest tv shows ever' on 4 a while back and got reminded that Queen's Brain May done the theme tune of it |

I would prefer a lesser-known actress who can act to play Wonder Woman, a few people have mentioned Charisma Carpenter (Buffy, Angel) but I just don't see it. Rebecca Romijn (Pepper Dennis, X-Men 3) might be a good candidate. |

I personally don't think Rebecca Romijn has the look mate for Wonder Woman yeah she has a great body but I don't she looks right perhaps an ememy though... I could actually see Charisma Carpenter more in the role though I wouldn't choose her either. Who is very strongly linked to being the new Wonder Woman is Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra in Firefly/Serenity). I think she might be a good choice ....but may need a wonder bra .
I loved Press Gang too Jamie and I totally concur about a reunion. I always thought it wasn't as good though when they left the school newspaper and established themselves with their own paper....and Kenny then left too ...it just wasn't the same for me. I used to have a really big crush on Lynda I thought she was the bee knees . Colin was also a very funny character too. I'd say it wouldn't be too hard to get them all back together again either ....most are still acting I think!
Going by your final theory Jamie you could have a big school reunion following and narrated by Lynda only to discover at the very end in a 'Sixth Sense' kind of way that she died in that fire ....mmmm it could work!!!
Other cartoons I have also remembered are.....
Inch eye private eye - cartoon about a very short detective ...always recall the opening credits where he is jumping on an old type phone dialing the numbers
Hong Kong Phooey - Everybody's superguy! he was a superhero kung fu dog who was really stupid but had a very clever sidekick cat. One of my favs.
Top Cat - Cartoon which was basically Bilko with Cats
Catch the pigeon (Dastardly & Muttley in Their Flying Machines) - d--- Dastardley and his flying gang try and get that damned pigeon I used to love klunk (The weird speaking inventor)
The perils of Penelpe Pitstop - I loved this too ....who can forget her shouting HE LP in her southern accent ......protectors, the Ant Hill Mob,
and their courageous car Chugga-boom! The hooded Claw was great too
Wacky Races - Funny races with a load of Hanna-Barbera characters. |
