Just came back from seeing Cloverfield, and it is a movie to see at the theater...even with them charging $ 11.75 for a movie at Regal Cinemas in Manhattan.

I studiously avoided any threads about this movie, as well as anything written about it online on other sites. I went in knowing nothing except that the trailer looked pretty cool.

I'm glad I didn't know anything about the movie, because I probably wouldn't have gone if I knew how it was filmed. I almost got sick watching the Blair Witch movie (from that shaky camera approach), and now I can't watch much of anything that is filmed that way. It literally makes me nauseous.

But this movie was fun, and I really liked it...although I did have to shut my eyes a few times when they were running around and the camera was bouncing all over the place. Overall, the storyline was good and the acting was OK. They get props for (almost) being able to sound believable as the city comes down around them, and the people the love most in their lives are killed right in front of them. I'm just a sucker for Sci Fi stuff though, and the monster rocked, along with all the little parasite things too.
:D

I saw it again last Saturday with a friend, who is not into scifi/horror and she loved it. I think it doesn't need a sequel, but most likely there will be one.

Personally I think Cloverfield should be a stand-alone story with no sequels. I might change my mind if they go in a different direction and don't try to do another hand held video camera version of the first one.
