Tis the season to be lonely. During these times can be the hardest for all of us especially being single and for some of us being in a deferent part of the country from our families. Anyone have any ideas on what you might be doing if your in this predicament. Or what others might do?

When I was in New Orleans, I missed Xmas with family three years in a row. The improtant thing that I did was to get out among other people, rather than staying home and letting myself get depressed. Go to a movie, if nothing else. Of just go out and tour your area, looking at decorations and the like. If you live somewhere where you can find other things to do, then do it. The main thing is just to be around other people and leech off some of their Xmas joy. Laughing

Another thing I thought of after I posted my original reply is that you can also do some charity work, like volunteering in a soup kitchen or something. Bringing joy to those less fortunate is also a great way to bring joy to yourself.

The problem is that I deal with all types when I'm at work I get burned out with the sheeple and I don't want to deal with anyone on my spare time. I know that is really bad and doesn't help me any but sheeple aren't my favarit people to deal with. I've thought about starting a group but I'm going to have to find a place of my own in a few months and that may take up my time.

Well, to be blunt, if you want to avoid loneliness, you can't avoid people. You can't have it both ways. I think you just need a new perspective that will let you find a compromise.

If you have a good circle of friends you could spend time with them and they might inviet you over to spend time with their families look I know that it's hard but there is also the thing that if you don't think about it and plung into your work and a third thing you could talk to your family over the phone or a fourth thing would be to go up to a person whom your attracted to and ask them out or to talk but what I'm getting down to is this you don't have to be lonly for the holidays.

Sorry I Haven't been posting lately but I have clinical depression and I'm be in a bit of a depressed state. It's a really odd feeling because I get really lonely but I don't want to talk to anyone and want to be left alone. After a while it becomes a chicken and the egg thing and a cycle that sometimes just has to either work itself out or one of my friends has to drag me out. I should have seen it coming because it usually starts with bouts of insomnia, I'm extremely tired but when I lay down I can't sleep and I'm wide awake. Then from there depression and sometimes paranoia. I hate it but it's just something I have to live with. I'll be back posting sooner or later.

I go through that to a lesser degree, too, so know where you are coming from.

High five for clinical depression! I know exactly what you mean..I go through my oxymoronic stages of being horribly lonely but still not wanting to deal with people. You just have to get over it and put yourself out there sometimes, even if you don't feel like it at the time..which I know is easier said than done...

That is it excatly. I know when I get into the mood to stay away from people completely, that is when I need to push myself out the door.

Sometimes even when you have friends and family, you can be lonely. My father broke his hip on Thanksgiving, and I have been so stressed out with him , my mother and work. I just feel that no one gets it , no one understands why I just want to pull the covers over my head. Now I find out I have to take care of Dad when he is out of the rehab.....it's a big deal, one more HUGE stressor, but I guess I can handle it. Sad

gabbybird, trying to be strong.

Stay strong Gabbybird. I got a friend whose had a very bad year. Her husband is out of work because of his back, and she's been trying to pay all the bills. Talk about stress, there always seems to be a new problem happening to her every month or so. Luckily she has friends and family to help her out during these difficult times, I hope you have that same support.
