Hi! Very Happy I have just joined as so many guys and girls to choose from. I have to admit that I really am not sure what to put in a email, I guess I am just going to hold my nose and take the plunge. Exclamation

If anyone hasn't put their Babel fish in today then basically what Fringey is saying is ''You suck, I am too good for you.'' Brute!

Weird. I always thought it meant "You are way too good for me, so I am running like hell." I said I wasn't good at being the rejecter.

But returning to the topic that Fringey was originally seeking discussion on, since us guys do out number the lasses as on any dating site I think we would end up rather disappointed if we just sat back waiting for that email we desire,

''Hi!, I read your profile and you sound really interesting. And i love your photo, mmm can we chat sometime?''

What about smooching is that just too tacky?

You are probably right. But, even though we outnumber the women here, the women are all such quality people, how do you choose who to contact first? I'm not joking on that. This site actually gives you a site where you have something in common with just about every woman that signs up for it, making it very difficult to narrow down that one special person. For me, the only thing that has kept me from contacting someone is usually the distance they live from me. There really are some fantastic women here I would ask out on a date in a heartbeat if they weren't several hundred miles from me.

I find it easier, because this isn't the same as getting rejected in person. At least here you know if you have a chance to ask them on a real date.

Very good point. And, as I said to Jamie, you already know you have a lot in common with someone if you find the here. That would make things a little easier too.

Don't worry, Jamie, he'll be kicking himself when he hears your
accent.

Plus, bonus points for referring to the Babel fish, so it IS Fringey,
and not you.

Gee, I am starting to rethink this whole thing.

As to the topic at hand...

There's a great quote, I think by Asimov (but the allergy meds
are clouding my recall), "The cost of obtaining knowledge is never
equal to the cost of not obtaining it."

And another from "Brigadoon":

“It's the hardest thing in the world to give everything. Though it's usually
the only way to get everything.†-- Mr. Lundie

And you know I can't l go long without quoting Joss...

"Fortune favors the brave." -- from "Hush"

Or the old standbye, "no guts, no glory".

I finally emailed a young lady I found interesting on here, even though she lives four hours away, but I have not gotten a reply yet. But, as I said before, no guts no glory. Keep your figners crossed for me.

Actually it's "Fortune favors the bold," and that chestnut was around for centuries before Joss got it wrong.
Personally I prefer, "The race does not always go to the swift, not the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet."
If you're afraid of rejection, fall back on my favorite quote from Q (I think you all know the one I mean, I've used it before).

Go for the gusto, Fringey; if you don't, you'll always wonder 'what if'...

Back to the subject...I'm new here but from experiece on other sites the worse thing is having the "not read" or "no reply" in your inbox. Personally I think that not replying is bad manners, on a site like this with free e-mail a reply should always be sent even if its a "sorry, but..." If someone has taken the time to send you a message the least you can do in return is reply.

I would disagree. The first person I sent an email to never esponded, but I was philosophical about that. Even worse is to start communicating with someone, via email, chat, and even phone, for months and think you have a good solid friendship going. Then they just suddenly stop communicating, without a word of why. That makes you feel completely disrepected and like a total fool for even thinking that something good could come out of it. But, such is the way of the world and people effin games they play with other people's emotions, right? Am I bitter? Slightly. Am I giving up? Pretty much. But there is that one small part of the hopeless romantic that just won't completely give in and I keep wasting my time here.

At least there are some good conversations here in the forum to keep me from going completely batcrap.
