Okay, so we have a classic that hasn't been matched in nearly thirty years (andy why didn't they put the remake on track for a release on the 30th anniversary? Re-release of teh original in theaters maybe?) and it is being remade. Usually a sure sign the movie will suck. Especially John Carpetner films being remade. Assault on Precint 13 was a genius movie originally, but the remake was kind of blah. Same with The Fog.

My first instinct was that Halloween would be the same. But, that was before I heard Rob Zombie was helming. House of 1000 Corpses was a superb blend of old school cult classics like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hils Have Eyes, and Spiderbaby. Throw in some serious rock & roll, and it is an instant, albeit flawed, classic cult film by itself. Then we get Devil's Rejects, a seuel to House of 1000 Corpses with a radical shift in style, more akin to the grindhouse classics. Think House On The Edge of the Park crossed with Vanishing Point and you got Rejects. Personally, I like House much more, but still appreciate Rejects.

So what to expect from Zombie's remake of Halloween? At the very least, something stylish that will have Rob's own imprint, but still respect the original. And let's not forget that Malcom McDowell will be playing Doctor Loomis. Always a pleasure to watch him in anything. He may be the true inheritor of Donald Pleasance's cloak anyway, playing many parts the last 10 years or so that I could definitely see Donald in.

So, I guess us horror fiends will have to patiently wait for August. If the critics hate it, it is a sure winner. I know I am gonna re-watch all the Halloween films again between now and then, in every version I can get my hands on!

I have a wait-and-see attitude with this Halloween remake. Personally I didn't like "House of 1000 Corpses", just seemed like a music video with some bad flashy editing. "Devil's Rejects" was a lot better, it did seem like the movies of the '70s horror that I grew up with. When I heard Rob put in the script Michael as a kid killing rats and living with his trailer trash mom I was like "No Way!", Zombie is giving the classic Halloween the "Rejects" treatment. A lot of fans were upset about that. Then I saw the trailer and it wasn't so bad, still I have to see the film to give my final opinion.

Zombie can do no wrong by me.
My favorite part of Grindhouse was "Werewolf Women of the SS".
I'm sure his rendition of Halloween will be great.

`I really liked this edition actually. I enjoyed the focus on Michael's early years that you don't get from the original. It's obviously a bit trashier and gorier, but in a good way for it being a horror movie.
