Why can't people be honest

"What is truth? It's but the changing of the laws. What is truth? Is mine the same as yours?"

It seems to me that when someone does tell the truth, no one wants to believe it or even listen to it. In my case, I always tell the truth when I talk with someone. My opinions and beliefs don't change from open forum to private chat. I won't lie to anyone because it does not good for me and it does no good for them. Besides, lies always end up being found out. So why bother?
