The Next Generation
Yes I grew up on the original crew and Yes, Nimoy is a God, but Picard brought honor and dignity to the role of Captian. As for the rest, I loved seeing how they were able to change and integrate new ideas and new visions along with a fresh style into what was already ground breaking territory. |

I feel the original series deserves most of the praise, it was so groundbreaking for its time. The first interracial kiss, stories on racism and war that literally went over the tv censor's heads. Yes, I enjoy Kirk's long pauses in his sentences and speeches, Dr. McCoy and Mr. Spock (sometimes friendly) arguments. I still say to this day Mr. Spock's emotional breakdown in "Naked Time" just defines the character in that scene, not to mention a good performance by Leonard. |

I agree whole heartedly with rayman. Did you know that nimoy directed "Naked time"? (I hope I remember correctly) And that shot of him, sitting alone in the room with the chess board, the slow pull back, it was his idea, just to really leand more weight to the fact, that he, among all others on board, was so terriably alone.
An alien , even trapped between two species
Yes, i know, waxing poetic isnt always called for, but hey sue me for it! |

I do remember that Leonard got lots of letters after the episode aired just for that scene alone. It kind of struck a cord with some people. Unfortunately I was too young when it first aired on TV, as with many I saw it in syndication. |

DS9 because its really just a western in space if you get down to its core (pre war anyway). That and they have Sisko the only captain to ever punch a member of the Q continuum! While the ending really feels tacked on (and the prophets made all the bad guys go away). The over all feel for the show and its characters plus great production values make it the best 'trek show to date. |

I liked all of the series (even Enterprise to a certain extent), however, DS9 is my favorite. The Klingon War, but most especially the Dominion War, were the highlights of the series for me. Though I appreciate Gene Roddenberry's view of a bright, hopeful future, I still rather enjoyed the darker themes of DS9. In addition to the "war stories", I also very much enjoyed stories involving the Maquis and Section-31. Two of my favorite characters of all the series appeared in DS9, Michael Eddington and Garak. Dark, dangerous, mysterious, but honorable in their own way. |

I do hate playing at favourites, but I've gone for DS9 because...huh. I'm not even sure why I've picked it, actually. I grew up on TOS & loved it to pieces, and then was UTTERLY obsessive about watching TNG when I was 17/18 or so...hmm. And of course Voyager has some fabulous characters...hmm.
I think that I've chosen DS9 because I like the fact that the series is not set in Federation-designed space - everyone is out of their element to a greater or lesser extent. I like the fact that it's set on a stationary location, and that we get to see the tension between different racial/political groups developing and changing and all that jazz, rather than having the planet-of-the-week schtick.
...but it's difficult to pick a favourite series.
(Huh. And I didn't even think of including Enterprise, even though I saw a couple of episodes.) |

If you go with most influential it would have to be the orignal series or TNG. However my favorite on a personal level is DS9. It had the most in depth and intense storyline. With great conflicted characters like Sisko, Odo, Maj Kira, & Quork. And also great ideas like Bajoran Religion views, the Founders, not to mention 24th century commerce & holo suites. It was a dirtier gritier show with massive amounts of gray area yet to be repeated in a star trek series.
I have one word that somes it all up.....Morn. |

I voted for TNG, Captain Picard had such authority and presence. I'm afraid I didn't like DS9 too much, I thought Sisko was a very weak Captain (I thought Avery Brookes was a very wooden actor) Sorry folks but that is my opinion.
TOS was good for it's time and I still love to watch it, the stories are strong and would still hold up now with a bit of moderisation and as someone else on here has said it did alot for equal rights etc.
Voyager was good too, again I thought Kathryn Janeway was a great Captain, I can never understand why fans dislike it so much! Maybe someone could enlighten me.
I enjoyed Enterprise too, it wasn't the best series but quite enjoyable, maybe it wasn't given a chance to get off the ground properly.
I've never seen the animated series so I can't comment on it. |
