I always thought it strange that in all the ENTERPRISES'S planetary travels, that they never encountered a vampire-like race. Am I wrong in this regard? I don't profess to have seen EVERY episode, so if someone knows any diffrent please point me in the right direction. If no such episodes exist, would anyone be interested in sharing some Star Tek/Vampire Fantasy stories with me?

There aren't any blood-drinking vampires in Trek as far as I know, but there are creatures who feed off other things, like the "salt vampire" in TOS and Onaya in DS9, who feeds off creative energy.

The salt vampire that she mentioned was the only one I remember that actually had that vampiric quality, but there are lots of races that suck energy of all different kinds out of people. It seems like a planet of vampires would be a hard society to maintain. They'd have to raise people (or some other creatures) like cattle to use as a food supply. A vampire population grows exponentially. They feed on humans to survive, the humans they feed on become vampires and need to feed on other humans. Soon you don't have enough to go around and the vampires all starve to death. It would be really hard to keep the balance in the long term. So I doubt a vampire society would survive on a planetary scale.

Now this is just my thoughts on the matter. But at the time the OST was in play, there was Dark Shadows, a wildly popular Vampire based evening soap opera. Gene was working at expanding our view, giving us new fears and new resolutions. So why deal with blood suckers, when the idea of an energy sucker was so well suited to the genre?

I always thought Janeway could suck the life out of people. Does she qualify?

Borg are the ultimate high-tech vampire zombies; but why no gothic, fang flashing, Forever Knight, Anne Riceball type vampire planets?

Because Buffy is not a qualified Starfleet captain.

Vampires are predators. You can have a stable predator/prey ecology, although of course, you'd have far fewer predators than prey.

Plus, if these are vampires who a) do not have to kill their prey to feed, and b) do not need to make a new vampire every time they feed, then they couldvery well have their personal domestic 'herds' and treat them much as we treat dairy cattle.

Not Always, In Trek There is the Hyrogen. in reality, We almost wiped out the buffaloo. Maybe we would have seen a blood/energy sucker in season four. When you start with The Man Trap, You want to go easy on that type of story or get the nick name " Van Helsing in Space" Vamps are a good goto story, a good jump the shark eppisode, but Trek didn't need to go that way

There was one episode in the original series where Kirk's brother is killed and his wife is dying. There were creatures that flew and stuck to your body to inhabite you. I can't remember the name of the episode but what I do remember is Spock gets infected but is able to control the effects long enough to get a creature for Bones to discover how to destroy. So that might be the one eposide with parasetic creatures. Anyway maybe someone else has some ideas.

There are several episodes from the original series that have a vampire-esque story. "The Man Trap" is the most obvious, dealing with a creature with superhuman strength and the ability to paralyze its prey as it sucked the salt out of them. "Obsession" deals with Kirk's battle with a creature that drains the hemoglobin out of its targets. "Wolf in the Fold" deals with the spirit of Jack the Ripper, which terrorizes its prey because it feeds on fear. "The Immunity Syndrome" deals with a huge creature similar to an amoeba that drains the life out of other beings, though not intentionally.

I don't consider "Operation: Annihilate!" a vampire story, because the creatures don't drain life from their victims; rather, they implant bits of themselves into the nervous system that can control behavior.

I think Gene Roddenberry elected to explore story ideas different from traditional themes such as vampirism, or explore them in different ways, because he could do so with a series such as Star Trek and its virtually limitless possibilities. He was definitely a visionary.

Hi everyone, I'm new to TrekPassions, my name is DaPrincess, but you can just call me princess, or your majesty (I'm just kidding) Lol. Call me princess please. How ya'll doing? I'm fine.

Yeah so I think that an Enterprise Vampire episode would be very interesting! Yeah I would like to see that! Lol. But I think that they didn't have that because well, maybe they didn't think of it, & then it got cancelled so suddenly, & for what reason, who knows??? If Ent would have had more time, more seasons, & more episodes, then maybe they would have encountered a vampire race!

P.S. Will ya'll please show me some luv, cause I'm da new girl?
