Theres still a chance for Torchwood to make it to the states after all they sent us Hex. Please tell me that Torchwood is worse than Hex

I am confused. Why would you want Torchwood to be "worse" than Hex??? I have only seen the first ep so far, but really liked it. Very different from Doctor Who. More of a X-Files/Men In Black/Buffy mixed all together.
My understanding is that the Cyberwoman is going to be more akin to the Borg than the Cybermen in that she is only partially converted. Probably closer to Toberman in Tomb of the Cybermen.

Over here it seems Sky has BBC3 in its sights as the third series of LOST will debut on British television on November 19th with a double bill at 9pm. Torchwood starts at 10pm so there will be some squabbles in households up and down the land.
I have finally seen eps two and three. I thought Day One was better than Everything Changes, and Ghost Machine just really rocked. LOVED it!

Well, Jamie, I have finally seen Cyberwoman. I enjoyed it, but it definitely wasn't as good as Ghost Machine. I did think it was better than Day One. I liked getting more insight into Ianto, and there was some nice emotional depth to the episode. Especially at the end. I am looking forward to seeing Small World in the morning when I get home from work.

Well, I have NOT had the chance to watch Small World yet. I did enjoy Cyberwoman, but not as much as eps 2 & 3. I meant to say it was better that Everything Changes, NOT Day one. My error. Not to try and judge your opinion of the show, or anyone elses, or change your mind. I am just curious why so many Doctor Who fans don't seem to like the show seemingly because it isn't like Doctor Who. I am not sure if folks are intentionally or subconciously comparing the two, but most of the folks I have seen who aren't thoroughly enjoying the show are old school Who fans. Of course, while I am an old school fan, I also am one of the few who didn't have a problem with the implied romantic relationship between the Doctor and Rose, and I actually enjoyed Love & Monsters, too.
I think I am just someone who doesn't have a problem with experiments in different directions for shows, unless they throw out EVERYTHING. Heck, as long as they entertain me, I am happy. Torchwood is another take on the shows you mentioned, and you could probably throw in Omega Factor and Millenium, for that matter. But, while there is almost no way anyone can come up with something that is completely original anymore, it works for me if they have a fresh take on the idea. That is why Torchwood is working for me.

There have been some things I've liked about Torchwood and other things I didn't. But I couldn't help but keep thinking "I've seen this series before!!"
Well, thanks to Sci-Fi Channel re-running cancelled sci-fi series I now remember why I felt like I'd seen it before: "Special Unit 2"
Female cop stumbles on wierd goings on, crosses paths with a handsome guy who knows what's going on, she gets recruited into a secret law enforcement unit that operates out of an underground headquarters.
Well, the US has stolen enough series ideas from British television - guess it's only fair if they swipe ours from time to time too.

Well I'm not a Doctor Who fan, but seeing the previews for Torchwood for next Saturdays premiere has me pretty interested. Looks like a cross between X-Files and Buffy.

Just want to say one thing, there are ony so many stories and ideas on the planet, over here shows don't get axed just as they start to ge promising,e.g.
Threshole
Enterprise
Something is out there, and so on.
Ratings are NOT the be all and end all of things, I have had to suffer decades of sub standard tv rubbish from over there we got a bit of our own back with hex ( yes it is truly rubbish), you the watching public need to make a stand and tell the studio's to sort it out.
People power can make s difference, it made paramount make a fourth season of enterprise, even if the plots were weak and the writing flawed in places at least it kept trek going for a while even if it was on life support.
By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TREK and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me too.

Unfortunately the network TV executives don't have the same opinion you do. Ratings are everything to them and why spend so much money on a show if advertisers won't pay for the airtime if the show only getting 3 million viewers? Not a very good investment. Another problem is the ratings system is outdated, the networks should get other ways to monitor viewers. Also we haven't been sitting on our butts doing nothing when shows are about to be canceled. Fans have risen up to save their shows before, such as Roswell, Veronica Mars, and the recent Jericho where fans mailed thousands of pounds of peanuts to the offices of CBS. CBS caved in and Jericho will be back as a midseason replacement, it's only seven episodes but that's a tremendous accomplishment bringing back a show that was canceled.

Well, BBCA is two episodes into season two and it is Great....If you aren't Homophobic. Sombody mut have seen all the US press it got when it Started with John Barrowman Snogging (Brittish term for Kiss) and then beating the crap out of James Marsters. Marters Charecter, Capt. John Harnnet, is what our dear Capt. Jack would be if he hadn't met Rose and the Doctor. Capt Jack Also makes a date with his Assistant Ianto after finding Qwen wearing an Engagement ring.
There are a lot of Touching scenes in the up comin episodes. and a couple of Crass remarks as well
Ep 2 Sleeper: as they are about to use alien Tech to jog a womans memory Ianto Mimics an electacution.
Ep 4. Meat (yes that is the title) When Qwen asks Capt Jack about if he liked Alien meat his response was to say "he didn't mind it " (reffering to the Meat)
if you have BBCA you can still cath eps 2&3 this week. I don't think Sci FI will show it
Will someone shut that man up
NEVER! |

I found the second season of Torchwood much better than the first one. You could tell that they took their time with the stories (although the plot holes were still somewhat large). Tried really hard this season to hate Owen, but found it hard; Burn Gorman did a really good job as did Naoko (Tosh).
Although I'm happy about a third season I'm a little ticked that it'll only be five-episodes long. At least they can give the newbies a proper introduction without having to rush/compress it into an hour-long episode.

| .Definitely one of the best shows being done right now. I'm waiting for series 3, which I think we (in the US) won't see until at least January or February. |

yup, Tom Price (PC Andy) is in it and is Kai (Rhys). They've been shooting these past weeks so hopefully we won't have to wait longer.
Although I'm sad that Freema won't be in the series, I guess that they had written Martha in but had to rewrite her parts due to conflicts with Law&Order:UK.
